Deanna Jane Cunningham, age 79, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 30, 1945. In Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Harry Leroy and Nina Celesta (Striplin) Smith.
Deanna attended Eugene Elementary school, Ottawa Middle School and Ottawa High School, graduating in 1963. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell phone company. Deanna met and married Carl Honeycutt on March 26, 1964 in Paola. Of this union, six children were born, Carl Jr., Kevin, Sandra, Catherine, Angela, and Lorie. Carl Sr. passed away in 1982 at Pomona Lake in Osage County.
She worked for USD 287 School District in Pomona for nearly eighteen years, living in Pomona. In 1989, she married John Charles Atkins. They divorced in 1993.
Deanna was a Christian and truly loved God and family. She had many hobbies including reading, crocheting, gardening, computers, genealogy, tole painting, crafts, sewing, baking, fishing, and camping throughout her life.
Preceding her in death were her daughter Catherine in 1969, husband Carl in 1982, sister Donna in 1992, father in 1988, and mother in 2011.
Those surviving include sons Carl Honeycutt, Jr. and Kevin Honeycutt; daughters Sandra Warner; Angela McMechan, and Lorie Honeycutt; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and sister Nina Fisher.
Graveside services will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona.
