Deanna Jean Franz, age 79, of North Newton, Kansas passed away surrounded by family on October 14, 2025. She was born in Dodge City, Kansas to Wanda and Joseph Applegate on June 16, 1946. After losing her father at young age, Wanda married LaVerne Hofen, whom Deanna thought of as a father.
Deanna graduated from Newton High School in 1964. She married Dalice Franz on September 19, 1992 and blended an amazing family led with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. Dalice passed away on June 7, 2023.
Deanna retired from many dedicated years of banking in the Newton community. She was an exceptional teller and known for her warm smile, kind heart, and gentle spirit. Her caring and humble nature touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Deanna found her greatest happiness in time spent with family and friends - especially her beloved grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her generosity, compassion and unwavering love. She made everyone feel special.
She is survived by children, Travis (Chris) Wedel, Kelly (Laura) Franz, Brian (Dawn) Franz, Jase (Nikki) Wedel, and Shelly (Scott) Hardman; sisters, Carmen Bryer of Colorado, Lee Henry of Oregon, and Judy Greer of Hutchinson. Deanna was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A private graveside memorial will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice and left in the care of Petersen Funeral Home.
Deanna will be cherished forever in our hearts.
