Deanna M. Smith, age 31 of Long Prairie, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11 at St. John Vianney Church in Round Prairie with Rev. Adam Portugal officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Round Prairie. Deanna Marie Gergen was born August 26, 1979 in Rochester, Minnesota to Gene and Cathy (Brossard) Gergen. On August 8, 1998 she was united in marriage to Mark Smith at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in St. Paul, Minnesota. Deanna and Mark moved to Long Prairie in 2004. She was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Round Prairie. Deanna loved spending time with her family. Deanna is survived by her husband, Mark Smith of Long Prairie; children, Emily, Alexis, Hannah, Levi, and Ava, all at home; parents, Gene and Cathy Gergen of Osakis; mother and father-in-law, Terry and Gail Smith of Plum City, Wisconsin; grandmother, Clarice Gergen of New Prague; great-grandmother, Virginia Liefering of Durand, Wisconsin; brothers and sisters, Denise (Charlie) Roman of Jamestown, North Dakota, Deidre (Mark) Ruegemer of Sauk Centre, Daniel Gergen of Osakis, Desiree (James) Vearrier of Sauk Centre, Dominic Gergen of Osakis, and Diane Gergen of Osakis; brother-in-law, Scott Smith of Plum City, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Carrie (Darrel) Peterson of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Jacinta, David, Lillie, Noah, Mariah, Aubrie, Daniella, Derrick, Brittany, Carson, Casey, and Nikki; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Smith; brother, David Gergen; and grandparents, James and Evelyn Brossard; and grandfather, Isadore Gergen. Serving as casket bearers will be Daniel Gergen, Dominic Gergen, Charlie Roman, Mark Ruegemer, and James Vearrier. A memorial fund has been set up in Deanna's name at the American Heritage National Bank in Long Prairie. Donations can be made out to the Mark Smith Benefit Account for Deanna Smith, American Heritage Bank, P.O. Box 509, Long Prairie, Minnesota 56347.
