Debbie Spears Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home - Allen on Feb. 10, 2026.
Debbie Spears, 74, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on February 3, 2026. She was born on April 8, 1951, in McKinney, Texas, to Jewett Hunter and Marjorie Flohr.

Above all, Debbie's greatest joy was her family; especially her husband, children, and grandchildren, along with the sisters and loved ones who were an important part of her life. She created a home full of laughter, strong opinions, good food, and a lot of love.

Debbie shared a lifelong love with her husband, Danny. High school sweethearts, they built a life together grounded in devotion and commitment. Debbie cared for Danny in every way; managing their home and making sure their family was always supported and cared for. While Danny provided for their family, Debbie was the steady force who kept everything running, holding their home and family together with strength and love.

She was equally devoted to her children, nurturing them with guidance, honesty, and unwavering support. Debbie was intentional about building a strong foundation in the Lord, ensuring that faith, values, and integrity were central to the way her children were raised – a foundation that continues to guide them today.

Debbie took immense pride in her grandchildren and was deeply involved in every part of their lives. She delighted in supporting them in sports and eagerly followed their games and progress, but her care extended far beyond the field. Their grades, goals, friendships, relationships and hearts, and the people they were becoming all mattered deeply to her. She wanted to know it all and loved them through every stage.

An exceptional cook, Debbie found joy in cooking with her children and grandchildren. Her chocolate chip pancakes were legendary and eagerly anticipated. During the holidays, especially Thanksgiving, her favorite, her kitchen became the heart of family tradition, filled with dozens of cookies she baked, and tins set out so everyone could choose their favorites, a cherished ritual that reflected her generosity and love of bringing people together.

Debbie loved traveling and was especially drawn to the ocean. Through scuba diving, she found deep peace in experiencing the beauty of God's creation beneath the water's surface. The sea and the stillness of the underwater world brought her lasting joy and connection.

A passionate educator, Debbie loved her career as a teacher and deeply cared for her students. Teaching was not just her profession, but a calling she carried with her for life – often reminiscing about her students even in her final days.

Debbie had a bold, unforgettable personality. She was strong-willed, outspoken, fiery, and uncensored – a true firecracker who spoke her mind and lived honestly. At the same time, she was deeply humble and full of heart. Those qualities, sometimes challenging and always authentic, were exactly what people loved most about her.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Danny Spears of McKinney, Texas; her daughter, Emily Shelley and her husband, Justin, of McKinney, Texas; her son, Adam Spears and his wife, Sarah, of McKinney, Texas; her grandchildren Maci, Kylie, Evan, and Jake; her sister Teresa Hansen and husband Ken of McKinney, Texas; and her sister Wendy Hunter of McKinney, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewett Hunter and Marjorie Flohr.

Debbie was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can say. Her love for her family will be felt for generations. A celebration of her life will be held, date forthcoming.
