She is preceded in death by her parents Montgomery "Boo" and Melba "Bobbie" Frye of Saltville. She is survived by her husband, Roscoe "Mike" Call, daughters Hannah Call and Heather Colley (Dave), grandchildren, Dalton Smith, Abbie Smith (Andrew), Aleah Call, and Duke Colley, all of Saltville. Dear family friends Scott, Shelley, Tyler, and Brody Waddle and loving best friends Rachel Buchanan and Darlene Fullen.
Debbie lived a fulfilled life of love and laughter before her dementia. She worked many years for the Saltville Post Office delivering mail. Debbie especially loved Christmas when the children on her route would write letters to Santa. She would personally respond to each child's letter every year. Debbie also taught Sunday school at McCready Methodist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star #151 in
Saltville, VA.
Debbie's love for her family and friends was the most sincere. She never missed an event that involved her grandchildren, as they were truly the loves of her life. Debbie's love for her community drove her to always be a helping hand whether it be hand delivering the mail to the elderly, fixing meals for neighbors during the holidays, or just being a warm smile with a loving heart to a stranger. Debbie's selflessness will be missed by so many.
The family of Debbie Call would like to personally thank her caregivers who gave their time and love to help care for Debbie as she battled her dementia. Robin and James Eastridge, Valerie Church, and Rosa Roark. A special thank you to Debbie's granddaughter Abbie Smith who went above and beyond to care for her "Maw". Also, to Breanna Cannon for keeping Debbie looking beautiful, Wayne Carter and the employees at Carter's Pharmacy, Dr. Bresowar and Stephanie for making home visits, the members of Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church for bringing meals and visiting often, and to the caring ladies from Hospice and Home Health of Chilhowie. Finally, to the "Upper Poore Valley" residents, especially Byrd and Cathy Frye, the family truly appreciates every thought, visit, and prayer given to Debbie throughout this journey.
Per Debbie's wishes, there will be no services to attend as her body is being donated for research. Even at the end of her journey, Debbie's selflessness carries on in hopes of finding a cure for dementia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Johnson City which held a special place in Debbie's heart as they cared for her grandson, Dalton as a premature baby.
