Deborah Denise Funches, a devoted mother, wife, and beloved daycare teacher, passed away on September 03, 2025 at the age of 58. She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Andre Demetrius Funches; her children, Tiesha Bailey, Shanetta Newton, Jacob Funches, and Honesty Funches; her grandchildren, Syniyah, Symajae, Shamiya, Syianna, Shamarion, Jykirah, Carter, Lariyah, Lamarcko, Tyler, and Jaylani; her siblings, Linda, Barbara, Hattie, Patricia, Joann, Cynthia, Tunja, John Jr; aunts, Mary and Meredith; uncles, Joseph and Solomon; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Deborah is preceded in death by her parents and nieces.
Deborah was born on June 24, 1967 in Tchula, MS to John and Edna (Bankhead) Newton, Sr. She married Andre Demetrius Funches, Sr. in Peoria, IL.
Deborah was known for her warm smile, kind heart, and creative spirit. Her passion for teaching and caring for young minds was evident in the way she touched the lives of everyone she met. Outside of her work, she loved preparing beautiful baskets for special occasions and birthdays, spreading joy and thoughtfulness wherever she went. Her attention to details and love for cleanliness were traits that brought order and peace to her home and family. She had a great sense of humor, kind heart, and infectious laughter brightened every room. She was funny, always making those around her laugh.
Rest in peace, Deborah. Your laughter and jokes will be deeply missed, but your memory will live on in our hearts.
A memorial visitation will be Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11am at The Wilton Mortuary, 2101 N. Knoxville Ave, Peoria, IL 61603. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon at The Wilton Mortuary 2101 N. Knoxville Ave, Peoria, IL, Pastor Toby Carlos and Pastor Charles Brown will officiate.
