Deborah Letz Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 25, 2025.
Deborah (Debbie) Letz passed away at home on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at the age of 65. She was born Deborah Doris Mills to father Thomas G. Mills, of Taft, Texas, and mother Joy Winifred (Skeete) Mills of Mt. Brevitor, Barbados on May 24, 1960 in the Canary Islands, Spain. Debbie lived in many locations during her early life. Due to her father's career with geophysical businesses, the family moved often and lived in the Canary Islands, Spain, Venezuela, Pittsburg PA, Houston TX, Denver CO and Lafayette, LA. While living in Venezuela she attended a British school and became fluent in Spanish and French. In 1976 the family returned to live in the United States.

Debbie attended high school in Houston and Denver, and graduated in 1983 from the University of Southwest Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. It was while she attended USL that she met her future husband, David Letz, through his sister Anna, a classmate of Debbie's. After graduation, Debbie moved back to Houston and David followed her shortly thereafter. They were married in Stafford, Texas on November 2, 1985, and lived in Houston until moving to College Station in 2017.

Debbie became a travel agent soon after graduation from college, and found her niche arranging travel itineraries for corporate clients. She made this her career until retiring in 2016. Both Debbie and David loved the outdoors and visited many national and state parks during their marriage. When at home she was an avid gardener and became a proficient cook, much to David's delight. David and Debbie always owned at least one dog, usually two dogs. She leaves behind her beloved dogs Pippa and Brandi who were her faithful companions. Debbie loved animals, and worked as a volunteer for the Texas Wildlife Refuge Center in Houston. It gave her great pleasure to rehab a sick or injured creature, especially squirrels and baby birds, and then to return them to the wild.

The driving forces in her life were her family, Christian faith and friends. She always made an effort to recognize family member's birthdays and activities. She loved to travel and looked forward to the annual family beach vacation week on the Texas coast and all the other vacations away with family and friends.

After moving to College Station, she joined Christ Church and soon became involved in the Faithbuilder's class, Bible study groups, the prayer ministry, singing in the choir, the Pilates exercise group, volunteering for Friends Gathering, and other service activities. She made many new friends as a result of participating in these activities. Debbie had a huge heart for people and was a true and faithful friend to many.

A few days before her death, Debbie realized that she had never been baptized. Pastor Jerry House Jr. came to her home and, surrounded by her family as witnesses, baptized Debbie with the love of God so that she could be at peace.

She is preceded in death by her father Thomas G. Mills, mother Joy Winifred Mills, and brother William Mills.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, David Letz, brother Robert Mills and his wife Gail from College Station, TX, brother Bruce Mills and his wife Donna from Garland, TX, two nieces, Sarah Ferguson and her husband Tryson from College Station, Katherine (Katie) Mills of College Station and a nephew Derrek Mills of Garland. Debbie also leaves behind great nieces and a nephew; Ty, Gabby, Selah and Samarah. She loved them all and participated in their adventures as much as possible.

The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to all of those who supported Debbie and David through her final journey with prayers, cards, texts, emails, visits, food, flowers and care. A special thanks to Sarah and Katie for their unwavering love and support.

Additionally, thank you to all of the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff that cared for Debbie as well as the hospice caregivers from Traditions Health for providing compassionate support, care and comfort.
