Deborah Mackey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bell & Bell Funeral Home and Cremations on Dec. 7, 2025.
Deborah Rena Mackey transitioned on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. She was born on October 1, 1956, in San Antonio, TX, the tenth child born to Vivan Mackey and Adell Brown Mackey. She was educated in the San Antonio Independent School System and received an Associate's of Science degree from St. Phillips College's LVN Program.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Gethsemane AOH Church of God. She had an unwavering faith in God and possessed a spirit of love and compassion. She was active in her church, serving on the Nurse's Guild and Youth Ministry.

Deborah found joy in cooking, sewing, making jewelry, and cake decorating. She baked and decorated birthday and wedding cakes for friends and family. One Christmas, Deborah and her sister Connie made homemade jelly and hobo bread and gave them out as Christmas presents to friends and family. Everyone was afraid to eat them, but they were actually very tasty.

She was a really proud mother and grandmother. Deborah loved her children and gave them unconditional love, patience, and compassion. She loved and cherished her grandchildren because they could do no wrong. She (loved) spoiling her grandchildren by making them cookies, candies, and treats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vivan and Adell Mackey; her siblings, Rodney Eric Mackey, Connie Bell, Etta Jean Peters, Vivan Mackey Jr., Maude Crayton; nephews, Leonard Crayton Jr. and Rodney Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Robert Montgomery Jr., Austin Moore, Karl Bell; and sister-in-law, Helen Sampleton Mackey.

She is survived by a long list of people who loved her: daughter, Kendra Mackey (Jeremiah); sons, Bryant Mackey (Christy) and Isaiah Mackey; grandchildren: Jordan Mackey, Marley Ferguson, and Wade Ferguson; siblings: Dorothy Moore, Rev. Joyce Mitchell, Rev. William Mackey (Mary Alice), Carolyn Davis (Edward), Donald Mackey (Mary), Audrey Mackey, Sharon Montgomery, Michael Mackey (Reina), Timothy Mackey (Willie Ann), and Kimberley Mackey; sister-in-law Delores Mackey; aunts, Betty Fuller and Louree Atkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
