Deborah Joan Schexnaydre

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah Joan Schexnaydre, 74 years old, of Luling. She passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. She was born on August 27, 1951, in New Orleans, the child of Edward and Florence Tschantz.

Debbie was, above all else, a fiercely devoted and loyal mother who lived her life with unapologetic boldness and boundless love for her children. A true maverick who was always willing to do whatever needed to be done to care for her family, often in her own wild, unconventional way. Strong-willed, outspoken, and unafraid to be exactly who she was,

Debbie's larger-than-life personality made her unforgettable to everyone who crossed her path. Her story, filled with humor, grit, heartache, and resilience, could have come straight out of a novel. In true Debbie fashion, she chose to leave this world on her own terms, surrounded once more by all of her children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Edward and Wayne, her husbands, Kenneth Kirtland and Michael Schexnaydre. She is survived by her sister, Joan; her children, Kenny, David, Jessica, Tiffany, Eric, and Luke; her grandchildren, Carli, Isaac, Cassie, William, Kaden, Stefan, Jaxen, Chance, Olivia, Molly, Michael, Andrew, Julian, Elijah; and four great-grandchildren.

A visitation and funeral service will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on October 18, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home, located at 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, LA 70001. The service will be followed by burial at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan.
