Deborah Spivey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark on Dec. 8, 2025.
On November 26th, 2025 Deborah Jean Spivey departed earth side to be with her King. She was born March 2nd, 1956 to Edith Jean Lawrence and Augusta Holman in Newark, NJ. Deborah attended Barringer High School where she took pride in being a Barringer Bear and ran Track and Field. While in high school, she met Rudolph Spivey. She later married Rudy whose union birthed seven resilient children. The first four children were crafted in Newark, NJ. They moved to Plainfield and went on to yield 3 more boys.
For most of her life Deborah was a Homemaker. She took pride in her role as Mother. The more children she had the bigger her heart grew. Although we all know who the favorite was she never made you feel anything less than hers. Deborah had a passion for gospel music. A few of her favorite artists included Rev. James Cleveland Jr., The Clark Sisters, and The Winans. She enjoyed singing, piano, laughter, playing backgammon, card games, bowling, coloring, crocheting, cooking, and baking. Most of all she enjoyed studying the Bible. She worked part time at Strike and Spare Bowling Alley in Green Brook, NJ to fuel her love for bowling. There she was gifted the nickname "Sweet Pea" for her loving personality. Later, she worked in child care at the BUF, Black United Fund on 7th Street as a kitchen aide.
Deborah joins in heaven her mother Edith, father Augusta, sister Shirlen Ingram, brother Ricky Lawrence, son King David. She is survived by the father of her children, Rudolph Spivey, a loving fiancé Glenn Koon, a sister Christine Earl, children Kim, Rudolph, Shanae, Shanise, Lawrence, and Osric Spivey, grandchildren Chylah, Ciana, Marquest, Gennise, Gerami, Gabrielle, Majetta, Eion, Lauryn, Naomi and baby Lawrence, and 5 great grandchildren.
Although Deborah no longer walks the earth she leaves a long lineage to continue on her beliefs to live boldly, laugh loudly, and unapologetically be your authentic self fiercely.
"We love you Sweet Pea! "Don't forget to pray."
