Debra Lee Beard

Debra Lee Beard, 64, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at home.

Services are 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Debra’s memory.

The former Debra Lee Mentzer was born September 20, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Joyce (Rhoads) Mentzer. She married the love of her life, Gregory A. Beard, on June 17, 1985, in Davenport, Iowa. They shared 37 wonderful years together and raised three children before his passing on September 17, 2022.

Debra worked for many years as a lunch lady in schools throughout Davenport and Bettendorf and also taught preschool at St. Mark Preschool in Davenport. She also worked at Casey’s in Le Claire, Iowa.

Her most treasured roles, however, were those of “Mom” and “Grandma.” Debra was a devoted and supportive mother who deeply cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She loved gardening and flowers of all kinds and was a devoted animal lover, enjoying feeding everything from cats and deer to raccoons. Over the years, she shared her life with many pets, including dogs and birds. She also had a passion for shopping, and her family jokes that Dollar General’s stock may take a hit without Debra’s frequent visits. Above all, Debra had a strong faith and enjoyed reading her Bible.

Debra is survived by her three children and their spouses, Stephanie and Daniel Calhoun of Davenport, Joshua and Brianna Beard of Bettendorf, and Melissa and Scott Mapes of Atkinson, Illinois; her nine grandchildren, Matthew and Alexander Calhoun, Elliott Calhoun, Adalynn Beard, Peyton Beard, Eleanor Beard, Jayden Brewster, Gianna Mapes and Rowan Mapes; two sisters, Diana (Randy) McKinley, and Marjorie (Bob) Paasch; two brothers, Russell (Terry Wilkerson) Mentzer, and Glenn (Shannon) Mentzer; her dogs, Simba, Prancer and Lady; and her bird, Jill. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce (David) Williamson; her father, Richard Mentzer; and her husband, Greg Beard.
