It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Debra Diane Smith-Ligons, affectionately called Debbie or Deb, who passed peacefully at her home on the morning of June 17, 2024, at the age of 70. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 19, 1954, to Robert Smith and Geraldine Mosley, the oldest of two children. She was blessed with three children who she loved dearly, Patricia, Krys and Joel Viney.
Debbie was a very bright and talented student, graduating from Greenbrier East High School and later worked at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV for many years. Debbie lived a beautiful life full of love, laughter and resilience but was quick to tell you what she thought. She enjoyed reading, music and loved to dance. She touched the lives of all who knew her in more ways than one!
Debbie was predeceased by her husband, Harry Ligons; mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Frank Mosley; father, Robert Smith, brother, Curtis Edward Smith; grandmother, Mattie Sanders; grandfather, Robert Sanders; uncles and aunts, Clyde (Bessie) Sanders and Billy (Virginia) Sanders.
She leaves to forever cherish her memory, children, Patricia, Krys and Joel; stepbrother, Anthony Mosley; grandchildren, John Marshall, Jr., Alyka Fenderson, Jashon Jones, and Micah Viney; great-grandchildren, Jaden Moyer, Jeremiah Marshall, Ashton Blankenship, Emiliano Zapata, Mhalia Glenn, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
To commemorate her incredible journey, and to celebrate the love she spread, we invite all who knew her to join us at a memorial service at Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes, 34 West 2nd Avenue, Columbus, Ohio on July 13, 2024, viewing will begin at 11am and service to follow at 12N.
