Del Meek Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory on Feb. 2, 2025.
Del Kent Meek, 76, of Canton, (formerly of Roswell for 37 years) passed away with his loving family at his bedside on January 29, 2025.
Del was born in the Texas panhandle, spending his youth there and in the Houston area until his family relocated to Cartersville, Georgia. He graduated from Cartersville High School in 1966 and proceeded to attend his beloved Georgia Tech, graduating in 1970 with degree in industrial management. His career in healthcare administration began at Grady Hospital as ambulatory care manager which ultimately evolved into IT development. He spent 12 years at Grady and left as Director of IT to pursue new opportunities in healthcare. From there he worked for both Per Se and McKesson as a compliance analyst, retiring as Director of Compliance monitoring. Del ran track in high school, leading to decades of devotion to running. He even ran in some of the earliest Peachtree Road races.
Upon the arrival of his children, he found great satisfaction in coaching little league baseball and softball at Sandy Plains and East Cobb. He later continued enjoying their games as a spectator and dad. Always a nature enthusiast, he loved being outdoors working in his yard or hiking on the trails. He especially had interest in trees; researching and planting species he desired to add to his landscape. Most of all, Del was an avid Georgia Tech supporter; always following their teams whether it was football, basketball, golf or baseball. Loved by many for his kindness, caring nature and quick wit, Del always found a way to inject humor into life despite his recent struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Del is preceded in death by his mother Shirley Meek and father Sherman Meek. He is survived by his wife Debbie Meek of 48 years, son Wes Meek (Lindsay), daughter Kelley Meek, granddaughter Paige Meek, siblings Larry Meek, Martin Meek (Bill Cooper), and Carla Bailey, as well as several nephews and a niece.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell Ga. 30075. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to any of the following: The V Foundation for cancer research, The Parkinson's Foundation, St. Jude's Hospital or The Atlanta Humane Society.
