Delaney "Pap" Newsome, 83, of Caney Creek, Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away March 11, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center. He was born on April 2, 1942, to the late John B. and Lizzie Newsom of Caney Creek, Pikeville, Kentucky. He was a devoted, loving husband to Betty Lamar Potter Newsom for 63 years. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Enterprise Coal Company of Robinson Creek, Kentucky. He was a twice cancer survivor with amazing faith. He gave God all of the credit. Delaney was preceded in death by his five siblings, John Henry, Acie, and James Clyde, Dacie Hamilton, and Dicie Vinson.
He leaves behind his wife, Betty Lamar Potter Newsom; one son, Steven Dwayne (Robin) Newsom of Dorton, Kentucky; one grandson, Steven Cole Newsom of Dorton, Kentucky; and a host of family and friends.
Services will be held at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville, Kentucky, on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, 2026, beginning at 6 PM for the public, with special church services each night at 7 PM. A funeral will take place on Monday, March 16, 2026, also at Lucas and Son Funeral Home, beginning at 1 PM, burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
