Delmar Orndorf Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barton Family Funeral Service of Kirkland on Jul. 26, 2023.
Delmar Vincent Orndorf went home to be with Jesus, Sunday July 4, 2021, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Zina; Son, David his wife Michelle; Daughter, Lisa her husband Steve; Grandchildren, Shayla, Zachary, Logan and Alexis.
Delmar was born July 18, 1938, in Millersburg, Pennsylvania to Otto and Tillie Orndorf. He was the youngest of four children. Sister Doris, brother Donald and brother Ned.
Delmar knew in high school that he wanted to be a sailor, so when he graduated in 1957, he joined the Navy. He trained at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois and was assigned to an aircraft carrier, advancing quickly from seaman to Petty Officer 2nd class. He got to travel to many places including Japan and the Philippines and of course Whidbey Island, which is where he met Zina.
Zina's uncle Ned served in the Navy with Delmar and while they were stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Base, he introduced them. Del knew she was the one. They were married September 2nd, 1961. Del served in the Navy for five years, then they moved to Millersburg, Pennsylvania. There they had two children before moving and settling in Kirkland, Washington.
Del worked for Boeing as an aircraft painter. Later, worked for Kelly Moore Paint Co. managing the Kirkland store for many years. Del retired from the paint company and took a facilities position at Overlake Christian church for a few years before completely retiring.
Delmar loved camping with his family, hiking, motorcycling, bicycling, drawing, taking pictures, building, painting and tinkering. Del put a lot of time into his home, doing most of the work himself. He built the fireplace, shed, deck, remodeled the family room, kitchen and bathrooms. Delmar and Zina traveled often to Pennsylvania to visit his family. They also traveled to Niagara Falls, Chicago, Atlantic City, Hawaii, a few cruises and of course many times to their Skykomish river camp.
Del loved the Lord, and it showed through his service at the church. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Del would always comment on his servant's heart. He had a heart for people and cared deeply for his family. A kind and generous man, always serving others. We will miss him dearly but rejoice knowing that he is now in the arms of Jesus in perfect peace.
