WADESBORO – On Sunday, September 7, 2025, Mrs. Delores Marsh Burroughs, 75, passed away peacefully at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe with her family at her bedside.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church with her brother, Rev. Ricky Marsh officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Thursday at the church prior to the service and other times at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, 689 Ingram Mountain Rd., Lilesville.
Delores was born February 13, 1950 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Wade Hampton Marsh and the late Agnes Harris Marsh. She was a graduate of Bowman High School.
As a teenager, she worked as a car hop at Bowman’s Restaurant in Wadesboro and later had a long career in textiles with West Knitting Mills. Following her work at West Knitting Mills, she worked with Anson County Schools as the cafeteria manager at Lilesville Elementary School for 25 years.
Delores was an active and faithful member of the Bethany Free Will Baptist Church in Wadesboro.
She was an excellent cook and was well known for her family favorites, potato salad, cabbage, cornbread and butterbeans. She enjoyed playing games and coloring on her phone and always made time to visit and do kind deeds for others in her community and church family.
Delores dearly loved her family but especially her granddaughter, Avery. She loved spending time with her supporting her in sports and school activities. They also enjoyed going shopping and fishing together.
She loved animals, especially her cat Rocky and her dog Rocco. She also raised bob white quail and chickens and enjoyed spending time and taking care of them.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are her husband and companion of 40 years, Jerry Burroughs; her daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and J.D. Harrison of Gastonia and Lori and Chris Hornbeck of Midland; her granddaughter, Avery Brooke Hornbeck of Midland; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Ricky and Dee Marsh of Lilesville and Gene and Becky Marsh of Chesterfield, SC and her nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Marsh.
