Delores Weiss Obituary
Delores Ann "Dolly" Weiss of Elkton, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born April 14, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Ted and Ann (Smerick) Goldsmith. Following high school, Dolly graduated from the St. Margaret Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh with the class of 1959. She then moved to Florida with her family where she met the love of her life, Donald Weiss. They were married on November 9, 1963. Their marriage was blessed with nearly sixty-two years and countless wonderful memories.
Dolly began her nursing career at the Pigeon Clinic before taking a break to raise her two children. She later continued her career as a school nurse with Laker's Schools and at Scheuer Hospital, retiring in 2002. A woman of many interests, Dolly enjoyed reading, crafting, ceramics, and painting. She was always ready for a trip to the casino, loved perusing QVC, and absolutely adored her pets.
She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sand Point. Dolly proudly served as Grand Marshal, alongside Don, in the 2006 Autumnfest Parade in Elkton. She will be fondly remembered for her feisty spirit, love of Christmas, unwavering faith, and above all, how deeply she cared for her family.
Dolly leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Don; children, Donald E. (Lisa Gray) Weiss of Saginaw and Debra Ann Weiss of Bay City; grandchildren, Alexander Weiss and Mackenzie Weiss and their mother, Tracy Weiss, all of Saginaw; brothers, Ed (Hilde) Goldsmith and Tom Goldsmith; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Schiller, and her beloved pets.
In keeping with Dolly's wishes, cremation has taken place and a service will be planned for a later date. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Courtney Manor and at Season's Change Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care of Dolly. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Thumb Animal Shelter, 2260 S Elkton Rd, Elkton, MI 48731, St. John Episcopal Church, 8271 Crescent Beach Rd, Pigeon, MI 48755, or Elkton Lions Club, PO BOX 371. Dolly was a classmate a friend a part of a very close knit group of student nurses to graduate from St. Margaret Memorial Hospital. She stood up for what she believed in and supported classmates even if they did not agree with her .I was honored to have her for a classmate . Names are funny things . First I met Delores Goldsmith , somewhere down the line it became goldsmith and then Dolly but nomatter what you called her she was you classmate and she was there for you. YOU loss is great Even if separated by time and miles ,as a classmate our loss is just as great You ,her family ,have my sympathy
