Delores Gloria Jung, 95, formerly of West Bloomfield, Michigan, passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Rose Arbor Hospice Home of Kalamazoo, Michigan. She had been living with her daughter, Deborah Hackett, in Kalamazoo for six years.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, October 27, 2023 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Drive, Portage, MI, with Pastors Paul Naumann and Kenneth Allan officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00, at St. Michael Lutheran Church.
Burial will take place on Saturday, October 28th at 11:00 am at Glen Eden Memorial Park – West, 35667 Eight Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan.
Delores was born the youngest of 10 children on October 9, 1928 in Thomasboro, IL. She was the daughter of Gerhardt Johann Meyer and Anna Jankea nee' Christians. After attending Saint John's Lutheran Parochial School of Buckley, IL, and graduating from Rantoul Township High School of Rantoul, IL, she received a degree at the Barry-Castle Business College of Champaign, Illinois. She served as a secretary in many capacities throughout her lifetime.
On August 19th, 1951, Delores was united in Holy Matrimony with Donald Frederick Jung at Peace Lutheran Church of Thomasboro, Illinois. Their union was blessed with four children: Deborah, Cathy, David, and Kevin.
Delores was a homemaker who served faithfully at the side of her husband while he ministered as pastor of Lutheran congregations in West Springfield, MA, and West Bloomfield, MI, and as well as President of the English District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. Don received the crown of eternal glory on April 18, 1987.
Delores is survived by daughter, Deborah Hackett, and husband, Pat, of Kalamazoo, Michigan; daughter, Cathy West, and husband Robert, of Seal Beach, California; her son, Rev. David Jung, and wife, Lori, of Pinconning, Michigan; her son, Kevin, and wife, Karen, of Cadillac, Michigan; her sister-in-law, Joyce Schmidtke, of Cleveland, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Frank, and husband, Larry, of Springville, New York; 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, the Rev. Dr. Donald F. Jung; her brothers, Herbert, Carl, Robert, Paul and Arthur; her sisters, Augusta Christians, Louise Eiskamp, Lily Blanck, and Clara Kaufmann; and brother-in-law, Eugene Schmidtke.
