Mrs. Delores Joyner O'Berry, age 89, of Waycross, passed away Saturday (November 8, 2025) at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born in Coffee County, Georgia, on June 4, 1936, to the late Chester Joyner and Barbara Taylor Joyner. She was a member of Mount Green Church of God of Prophecy and a former member of Larsen Acres Church of God of Prophecy in Jacksonville, Florida, and Gilchrist Park Church of God of Prophecy in Waycross, where she faithfully served in several offices.
Delores retired from Memorial Hospital and Satilla Regional Medical Center, where she worked in the cashier's office. After retirement, she volunteered as a "Pink Lady" with Satilla Regional Medical Center and Mayo Clinic Health System.
Her husband of 49 years, J.W. O'Berry went home to be with the Lord in 2002. Since then, she loved reminiscing about their years together. J.W. was a successful insurance agent for 27 years with American General. They attended many insurance conventions across the United States and abroad, traveling to Hawaii, the Bahamas, Barbados, San Juan, London, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, England, and many other places throughout the country.
After retiring in December 1992, they enjoyed spending time at their cabin in western North Carolina. They loved going to the mountains-he enjoyed planting a garden wherever he could find a spot, and she loved decorating the cabin. They often brought friends and family along, creating cherished memories together. Delores especially enjoyed looking through photo albums from their trips to the insurance conventions and the mountains. She also loved crocheting and made many baby blankets for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. O'Berry; a baby son, Terry Wayne O'Berry; a son-in-law, Denton Dial; a brother, Auvie Joyner (Willie Mae); and sisters, Earnie Mae Gilliard (J.R.) and Gerrell Davis.
She is survived by three children: Barbara Wildes (Dwight) of Waycross, Rickey O'Berry (Donna) of Dixie Union, and Sandra Dial (late Denton) of Waycross; seven grandchildren: Jamey Wildes (Brenda), Joey Wildes (Angie), Johnny Wildes (Caty), Jason Wildes, Aimee Mancil (Joey), Chris O'Berry (Becky), and Traci Stone (David); fourteen great-grandchildren: Jordan McKee (Garrett), Taylor Lytle (Zach), Reagan Wildes, Brooklyn Wildes, Owen Wildes, Parker Wildes, Paislee Wildes, Payden Wildes, Paxton Wildes, Annie Mancil, Judd McDaniel, Cayden McDaniel, John Ross O'Berry, and Ella Kate O'Berry; and two great-great-grandchildren: Hayden McKee and Judson Wildes. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Charlie O'Berry (Wilma); several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and a special friend, Faye Lunsford (late J.C.).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (November 12, 2025) at Mt. Green Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening at Music Funeral Home from 6 until 8 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501.
