Deloris “Sue” Deaton, 84, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at the Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center in Gillette, Wyoming.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Sue was born on November 21, 1940, to Charles and Deloris (Fenton) Fiske. She grew up on the family farm as one of nine children. She attended schools there and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1958. Following graduation Sue attended Texas Wesleyan College graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in teaching in May of 1962.

In 1963, she married Orin F. Deaton in Casper, Wyoming. This loving union produced four children. Mom/Grandma’s greatest joy came in watching her children and grandchildren grow and participate in the various sports and activities they were involved in. There wasn’t a game or performance she ever missed. She loved reading, watching and answering all of the questions on Jeopardy, and playing various card games with friends and family. Mom was an avid walker, having never had a driver’s license. Up until her final days she could be seen walking the halls and courtyards of the Cottonwood wing.

Sue’s working life centered around kids. She began her teaching career with Natrona County School District, in a one room school house west of Casper near Waltman. Later she served as reading recovery teacher when she and Orin moved their family to Memphis, Tennessee. Her final 20 years of teaching were as a pre-school teacher in Gillette. A position she truly loved.

Sue was loved by all. She was one of the kindest and most caring people around, never forgetting a birthday, anniversary or holiday. She loved her family and friends and would go to the ends of the earth for them. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and especially the many special friendships she made while a resident at the Legacy.

Sue is survived by sons, Chuck (Shelly) Deaton, Rich (Nancy) Deaton, and Joe (Anita) Deaton, and step-daughter Leslie (Martin) Specht. She adored her 13 grandchildren, Cole, Taylor, Braden, Hunter, Dominic, Tori, Chris, Laura, Kate, Steven, OJ, Erica, and Angelica, her 10 great-grandchildren, sisters Charlene Morgan, Judy Austin, and Iva Isom all of Missouri, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Sue in death was her husband, Orin F. Deaton, daughter Patricia Deaton, parents, Charles and Deloris Fiske, five brothers, Charles R. Fiske, Carl E. Fiske, Johnny Fiske, James Fiske, and Joe Fiske.
