Deloris Giles Portis, 68, was born November 29, 1956, in Cuba, Alabama to the blessed union of the late Taylor and Hazel Giles Portis. When her name was softly whispered “Come Take Your Rest”, she peacefully transitioned on December 18, 2024, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Deloris graduated from Sumter County High School, the Class of 1975.
She started her career at Bailey Creations as a seamstress right out of high school. She then went on to work for 20 plus years before retiring.
Deloris was best known for being the life of the party. Deloris loved life, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her everything. Most importantly she loved the Lord. She took great pride in caring for her fingernails and talking to her best friend Elaine Harris, who was like a sister.
Those who remain to celebrate a beautiful well-lived life are: 4 (four) children, Elizabeth Portis, of Birmingham, AL; Jamie Reed-(Earnest) Johnson, of Tuscaloosa, AL; Clytee (Daryl) Drake, Tuscaloosa, AL; Cordarle Portis, of Cuba, AL; 2 brothers and 1 sister, Charles Portis, Emelle, AL; Michael (Carolyn) Webster, York, AL; and Vinnie Portis of Chicago, IL.
3 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, and 1 great-grandson, Serena Johnson, Alyson Williams, Abigail Johnson, Cordarle Portis Jr., Dallas Portis, Kasper Portis, King Portis, Gabriel Johnson, and Jaylon Drake; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will truly miss her.
Deloris is preceded in death by her father and mother, Taylor Portis and Hazel Giles, Sisters and brothers, Mary Giles, Ollie Giles, Elmore Portis, Dan Portis, Minnie Portis, Virginia Portis, Rose Portis, TC Portis, Jessie Portis, Lizzie Portis-Mason, Lessie Ruffin and Ladarius Williams, son-in-law.
The service for Ms. Deloris Portis will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Weatherly Funeral Home with Pastor Stacey Edwards of Word of Life, Bellamy, Alabama delivering the eulogy, offering words of comfort and consolation. Deloris will lie in repose two hours prior to funeral time. Ms. D'Niqua Giles will serve as Mistress of Order.
Burial to follow with police escort in Elmwood Memorial Gardens, located 11313 US Highway 11, York, AL.
