Deloris Ann (York) Smith passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. She was born April 9, 1936 to Wayne and Bessie (Savage) York in Enfield, Illinois. She worked in various jobs in Carmi such as Ainsbrook Sewing Factory, Mears Market, and she retired from the Carmi Light and Water as payroll clerk, bookkeeper, and office manager in 1997. She was a devoted member of the Carmi Church of the Nazarene serving as Board Member, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent as well as transporting children to and from church.
In 1983 she married Glenard Smith, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1997. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading, fishing and camping.
She is survived by her three children, a son Larry (Sandy) O'Neal of Valley View, TX and twin daughters, Sherri (David) Gambrel of Mt. Vernon, IN and Terri (Bret) Meredith of Carmi, IL; grandchildren, include, Heather (Ty) Howard, Shannon (Adam) Black, Morgan Buelna, Anne (Justin) Buchanan, Kimberly (Brian) Herrell, Donnie (Kayla) Vines, Jr., Tara Morse, and Ethan (Kelsey) Veatch; great grandchildren, Kaden and Brinley Howard, Breelyn and Canyon Black, Jersey, Colbie, Liberty, Mariyah, Derrick, Demetrius and Daylin Buchanan, Annalise and Ellen Vines, Charlotte and Corbin Herrell, Alycia Weiss, Allana Osborne, Alliya Harris, and Parker and Paxton Veatch; great-great grandchildren, Aurora Grobb and Axton Strumpher. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Endicott of Clewiston, FL and Betty Dozier of Fairfield, IL as well as several nieces and nephews. Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters Dorys (Arthur) Saunders, Ruth (James) Weiss, Maxine (Harry) Norris and brothers, Lecil and Darrell York.
Funeral Services for Deloris Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Deloris' memory to Wabash Christian Supportive Living, 532 Ableson Dr., Carmi, IL 62821 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821
