Demetrius Hobbs

Demetrius " Meechie " Hobbs, 71, of Capron, Virginia, entered eternal rest on December 15, 2025. He was born on December 27, 1953, to the late Willie Herbert Hobbs and Mary Lizzie Hobbs in Capron, Virginia.

Meechie attended Southampton County Public Schools, where he laid the foundation for a life rooted in hard work, resilience, and community. He devoted years of service as a Logger as he would express the passion he grew for it. He was also known by many as a true "Jack" of all trades as Meechie could define the problem and develop the solution of just about anything.

Meechie had a passion for life and the simple joys that brought people together. He loved playing horseshoes and organizing tournaments, working on cars, and race car driving. He was known for his refined taste in food and his love for cooking, a passion that eventually led him on his food truck journey. Wherever Meechie went, laughter followed-he could light up any room with his humor, warmth, and the stories he loved to tell.

Above all, Meechie loved his family deeply.

He was preceded in death by not only his parents, yet his brothers, Armon Hobbs, Calvin Hobbs, and Leon Ferguson.

He leaves his loving and devoted wife, Lena Smith-Hobbs; three children: Marco Hobbs, Brenton Hobbs, Shavon Moore, and bonus daughter Lisa Turner (Leroy); his three grandchildren Isebelle, Brenton Parker, and Cameryn and bonus grandchild, Essence Turner, his siblings; Glenn (Angie) of Emporia VA, Sharon Ricks (Harold) of Capron, VA, Willie Jr. (Pat) of Richmond VA, Benita of Courtland, VA, Brian of Capron, VA, and sister-in-law Cynthia Hobbs of Drewryville VA. He also left to honor his memory are his beloved in -laws with whom he shared deep and loved relationships with, Bertha Artis of New Jersey; Arthur Smith (Geraldine) of Emporia VA; Walter Smith (Beverly) of Chesapeake VA; Dennis Smith of Capron VA; and Janet Thomas of Maryland, his aunts, cousins and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as a dedicated friend Catina Bansah who will forever remember his laughter, love, and legacy.
