Denis Dutton

We were both working on our PhD in Philosophy at U.C. Santa Barbara. I recently started to read his book and thought I would like to get in touch with him again. Unfortunately, I waited too long and just recently discovered he was gone. Antonia and I, naturally, were surprised that we were too late. Even though it has been so long ago, we still would like Margit to know that we remember her and Denis, are very sorry to get this news and are thinking of her. Denis was a very rare example of a man equally at ease in both culture and science. He was a the nearest thing there was to a New Zealand polymath. It is very hard for me and my spouse to live with the knowledge that we will neither hear his voice nor see his face again. Our deepest condolences to Margit, Sonya, and Ben, who did an outstanding job of conducting his funeral.

My deepest sympathy goes to the family and friends of Denis Dutton and the bible is a good source of encouragement one scripture is Ecclesiastes 9:5.

To the the family of Denis Dutton - May God give you peace and comfort through his word and the Lord Jesus Christ during this time of sorrow, I know that Denis will be missed by many.

I got to know Denis when I was at the U.S. Embassy in Wellington from 2003-2006. One of my greatest joys was to get together with him whenever I visited Christchurch just to talk about whatever was on our respective minds. I will always treasure those conversations. My deepest condolences to Margit, Sonia and Ben.
