Denise P Brault

Denise Poissant Brault, 91, a resident of Our Lady of Providence Residential Care Home in Winooski, VT passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at McClure-Miller Respite House in Colchester in the presence of her loving family.
She was born on September 29, 1933, in Enosburg Falls, VT, the daughter of Bernard and Mary Ellen (Quinn) Poissant. She attended boarding school in Canada through 8th grade. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in St. Albans, VT in 1952 and from Trinity College in Burlington in 1956. After graduation, she taught English and French at Shelburne High School in Shelburne, VT for a year.
She married Louis E. Brault of Winooski on June 29, 1957, at St. John the Baptist Church in Enosburg. In 1962, they purchased a house on Henry St. in Burlington. In 1964, Louis died of leukemia, leaving Denise to raise their 5 young children alone. Despite the hardships, she provided a loving happy home full of wonderful childhood memories. She had the support of many very dear friends and family members, in particular, her mother and her brother Pierre, who became like a surrogate father to her children. Denise valued her relationships with Louis' large family, and maintained them throughout her life.
She was an amazing hostess and welcomed all for a meal. She loved planning menus, decorating the house for every season and holiday, and making others feel at home.
Denise was an active life-long parishioner of St Joseph's in Burlington, attending daily mass for many years. She was known for her beautiful soprano singing voice. Early on, she sang in choirs in high school and college, as well as being a soloist at friends' weddings. She sang for many years with St. Joseph's senior choir. More recently she loved the sing-a-longs at OLP.
When her children were grown, she began working for the American Red Cross in Burlington until her retirement in 1998. Denise loved to travel. Once her children were on their own she visited Germany, Italy, and Ireland and several destinations in the U.S.
She loved her photo albums and recorded all events, big and small.
She lived in her house on Henry St. for 60+ years before moving to Our Lady of Providence in 2023.
Throughout her life, her unwavering faith and devotion to family sustained her.
Her beloved brother Pierre predeceased her in January of 2025.
She is survived by her children: Michael (Denise) Brault of Vermont, Stephen (Paula) Brault of Massachusetts, Mary (George) Bittner of Vermont, Margaret Brigham of Vermont, James (Elise) Brault of Florida; her 12 grandchildren: Sarah Hodgson, Justin Brault, Alexandra Brault, Meghan Skipton, Katherine Leshchiner, Eric Bittner, Brian Bittner, Evan Brigham, Samuel Brigham, Grace Stephens, Calvin Brault and Maxwell Brault; and her 6 great grandchildren: Ben, Kieran, Sean, Sophia, Liliana and Sonya.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law Barbara Brault and MaryAnn Brault, both of whom she was especially close to, brother-in-law John McNally and many nieces and nephews.
Her family is grateful to the caregivers and staff of Our Lady of Providence for the loving care they gave her these final years and to McClure-Miller Respite House who provided her with comfort and dignity in her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on October 25, 2025, at 10am at St Joseph's Cathedral 29 Allen Street Burlington. Interment will follow at New Mount Calvary Cemetery 79 Plattsburgh Ave Burlington.
