I will always remember my mother talking on the phone with cousin Denice that’s who she was in my house and my mother would light up
talking to her. Her accent only came out when she talked to her and I loved it. When I met cousin Denise for the first time in my teens I was fascinated by her knowledge and proud. I miss her and my mother but it’s a comfort to know they are in heaven together.

Burrell, Kendall and family my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to you. My daughter and were speaking fondly of Denise just last week.

What a lovely and gracious woman she was. Our loss is Heaven's gain. She made an impact in the earth that we can only hope to match.

Burrell and the whole family: I knew Denise as a result of her engagement in Belmont Against Racism; so many of my friends who had a lot of interaction with her so admired her, felt her constancy, her optimism. I attended the funeral today and was so moved by the stories of her love and determination. She "took in the good". This is a lesson for us all. I am sending strength to you all - her children, her siblings, all of you who will cherish the memory of her, and she will always be in our hearts, and thus close to us.

I knew her as Cousin Denise. I remember when I was little and she visited us in New Orleans. Being a child and wanting to play when the grown-ups were talking, I was not paying much attention to what they were saying. I only heard my mother's Boston accent when She talked to family member's from Boston. I loved it.
I also remember her smile.

So very sorry Burrell to hear about the passing of your beautiful wife Denise. She was a special beautiful lady inside out! We met last year for lunch at Haley House and it was wonderful. We had plans to have lunch again when the weather permitted. She was so warm and caring; I will miss her but I will never forget her!

Denise has had an amazing impact on this planet and I love her for her energy, warmth and willingness to pick up the torch and fight for those that needed her voice. We are all so lucky to have had her in our lives and the work she's done will continue to make lives better. Those of us that knew her, will help carry on her dreams, and she will always live in our hearts.

I am so sorry to hear of Denise's passing. Jesus wept after the death of his friend Lazarus. John 11:35. We mourn along with you. May the God who binds up the brokenhearted and comforts all who mourn sustain and surround you, until you meet again, Psalm 147:3.
