Denise E. Hornack

Denise Elaine Hornack, 75, of Lower Burrell, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, in her home. She was born in Charleroi, PA, on Dec. 19, 1948, to the late Joseph E. and Eleanor Elaine Hahne Tordy and has been a resident of the AK Valley since moving from Monessen in 1968. Mrs. Hornack was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell, where she was a 50 plus year member of the Christian Family Movement. She attended both the University of Pittsburgh and Penn State and was a member of the Serra Club of Allegheny Valley. She worked as the office manager for Hornack Health Center, Lower Burrell. When she was younger, she modeled and ran her own daycare. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, going to Pirates games, and she especially enjoyed going to her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She always loved annual family vacations to New Port Richey, FL. She loved animals and her pets and was always willing to take care of her family and friends whenever she could. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thomas R. Hornack; five children, Tom (Dana) Hornack of Lower Burrell, Erika (Scott) Bitar of Fox Chapel, Seth (Nicole) Hornack of Plum, Kylee Kohler of Natrona Heights, and Kayla (Jason) McConnell of Oakmont; eighteen grandchildren; Gabriella (fiance Peyton Manko), Luke, Cooper, and Gia Hornack, Scott, Baylin, Baustin, Barron, and London Bitar, Gemma, Peyton, Faith, and Seth Hornack, Monroe Allen, Baby Rocco, and Olivia, Anna, and Tilman McConnell; brother, Joseph (Karen) Tordy of Hainesport, NJ.; and sister, Terri (Kurt) Shutterly of Belle Vernon; uncles, Bob (Donna) Hahne and Leslie (Linda) Lunt; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jodi Tordy. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at THE RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., where Prayers of Transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m., Monday, followed by Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Lower Burrell. The family suggests donations made in her name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
