Dennis Chafin, 65 of Crooked Creek, WV departed this life Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born January 12, 1960, in Cherry Point, NC to the late Kenneth “Whiz” and Janice (Jarrell) Chafin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Keith Chafin; sister, Pam Spears; brother-in-law, Jimmy Spears; nephew, Jimmy “Bumper” Spears; great-niece, Trinity Spears, and nephew, James Chafin.
Dennis was an avid lover of NASCAR, gossiping, posting on Facebook from one of his 14 profiles, chatting with friends, family, and hanging out with his friends Delbert Queen and Mary Jane Petty. He will be remembered for so many crazy, wild, and funny stories from so many who knew him from school, Cole Street, and from family get togethers.
He is survived by his sister Kim (Chris) Smoot; nieces and nephews, Jenna and Lucas Smoot of Crooked Creek, Danielle and Kevin Brown of Valatia, NY, Halie and Josh Hall of Pritchard, WV, Kenneth Abbott and Rose Stewart of Columbus, OH, Katrina Chafin and Joe Decker of Whitman, WV, Doug and Kim Chapmen of Martinsburg, WV, Tabitha Spears and Anthony Marcum of West Logan, Marsha Spears and Jeremy Fleming of Henlawson, WV, Scottie Spears and Heather Spry of Ethel, WV, Stevie and Stacy Spears of Logan, WV; great-nieces and nephews, Kirsten and Tyler Gannon of Ethel, WV, Taylor Parlow, Tanner, Tucker, and Tinsley Spears, Aubrey “Monkey” and J.R. Spears, A’lara Spears, JJ Fleming, Malaya Fleming, Timothy Lawrence, Katelyn Brown, Maddison, Dakota, and Landon Hall, Gionna Chapman; great-great-nephews, Sammy and Dean Gannon, and host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2024 at Akers-James Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service, Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be may to help with the funeral expenses.
