DINNAN, Dennis – of Saginaw, formerly Clio, age 79, went peacefully home to be with his Lord Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Covenant Healthcare of Saginaw. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church – 230 E. Vienna St., in Clio. The family will receive visitors at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 11AM until 8PM and Wednesday at the church from 10AM until the time of Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. An internment will take place 10:30AM Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the St. Elizabeth Area Catholic School, in Reese.
Dennis was born August 30, 1944, in Flint, to the late Louis and Veona (Graydon) Dinnan. He graduated from Clio High School with the class of 1964, and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After graduating high school, Dennis attended Mott Community College and worked at General Motors for 37 years until his retirement. On September 12, 1964, Dennis married Phylis Yeo, and together they welcomed four children to the world. Phylis preceded Dennis in death on November 14, 2001. On June 11, 2005, Dennis married Margaret Shapland (Elisech), and together they shared 18 wonderful years. Dennis was a former member of the RCI team at SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church and continued to serve on that committee at St. Elizabeth Area Catholic School in Reese. He was also a member of the St. Elizabeth School Board Advisory Committee for many years and the American Legion Post 229, the VFW, Knights of Columbus, and he was a boy scout leader for some time. Dennis had a passion for history, specifically Native American history, and genealogy. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, gardening, and travelling. Dennis never missed a Detroit Tigers or a Lions game and represented them proudly. Above all, Dennis loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and cherished every moment with them. He was an extraordinary man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dennis is forever remembered by his loving wife, Margaret Dinnan; Children: Darrel (Joy), Pamela (Byron), Brian (Michelle), and Christopher; Stepchildren: George (Tammy), Vicky, Christa (Bryon), Kenneth (Amy) Wanda (Dean) Jennifer (David), and Steven (Keri); Grandchildren: Alicia (Nika), Jeremy, Elizabeth, Vann, and Nicholas; Step Grandchildren: Katie, Anna, Madison, Megan, Karley, Kleh, KC, and Jamie; 3 Step Great-Granddaughters; Siblings: Edward Dinnan, Sheridon "Lou" Dinnan, and Laurie McCord; Special cousin, Phillip (Mary) Dinnan; Beloved friends: Danny Campbell and Larry (Janie) Blakely; Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Phylis Dinnan; Parents; Brother, Darrel Dinnan; Grandparents; Many aunts, uncles, and extended relatives.
