Dennis Arness Hedgecoth, 64, passed away on January 18, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on May 16, 1961, in Dayton, Ohio.

Dennis was a man whose life was defined not by titles or accolades, but by character. He was street smart with a sharp mathematical mind, able to figure things out quickly and practically. More importantly, he was deeply altruistic and selfless-always willing to give his time, energy, or help to anyone who needed it, often without ever expecting recognition in return.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures. Dennis loved fishing, where patience and quiet reflection suited him well. He was also an avid fan of spaghetti westerns and martial arts films, genres that matched his appreciation for grit, honor, and perseverance. These were the moments where he relaxed, laughed, and truly enjoyed himself.

One of the most meaningful commitments of Dennis's life was his many years dedicated to Scouting America. He gave generously of his time mentoring and supporting young people, helping instill values of service, responsibility, and integrity. His influence through scouting touched many lives and will be felt long after his passing.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Hedgecoth; his mother, Wahnita Wendt; and his sister, Terilyn Costa.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ladean Peavley; his sons Patrick Ryan Hedgecoth (wife Kristine), Terance Corey Hedgecoth (wife Joanna), Jeremy Arnez Hedgecoth, and Walter Kenneth Peavley III (wife Ashley). He was a proud grandfather to 4 granddaughters, 3 grandsons and 1 great granddaughter who brought him great joy. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Penny (wife Phyllis), along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Dennis will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering generosity. His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the lives he guided, and the example he set simply by being himself.
