My wife and I were shocked and deeply saddened when we returned home from vacation to read about the tragic loss of Dr. Markovitz. He was my PCP since his children were born. He always had a smile on his face when he so proudly spoke about his children graduating Medical School. He always asked me about my antique cars. He woulld call me late in the evening to ask how I was doing, which was greatly appreciated., Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers to his family

I am very shocked to hear that Dr. Markovitz has left us. My heart has been aching since I heard this awful news. My heartfelt condolence to his family. I have been his patient over the last 35 years. During my visits he discussed my health issues. We also talked about our children. He was very proud of his children and family. He was very much interested about Indian culture. Sometimes we discussed Bollywood and even Indian politics. I am so sad that I will not see him again. He was one of the best doctors that I ever met. I will miss him forever. May his soul rest in peace.

Almost 40 years that I´ve had the privilege of being a patient of the best Doctor ever. Doctor Markovitz was one of a kind. I can honestly say I looked forward to going to office when needed. I always felt that I was his only patient. It always started off on a few minutes of sport talk, work and my family. He made you feel so comfortable that I forgot why I was there. It´s tough to put it into words how much he cared for me and my well being. How many doctors do you know that would take the time to call late night with a with a follow up call to see if you were ok? That is some dedicated person to his patients. I would always say why me, I can´t believe he actually called me to see how I was doing. What a great man and doctor! When I found out about his passing it felt like I lost my best friend. Dr Markvotiz there will never be another human like you. You impacted many a person and we are so greatful for all you have done to the the many patients you had. I hope your family will have the faith and courage to move forward knowing how much we loved Dr Matkovitz and how great he did for everyone he knew. May you rest in peace Dennis, there will never be another doctor like you! Randall Riva

Very sorry to hear this news. Dr. Markovitz was my PCP, and I thought so highly of him as a doctor, but also as a good human being - empathetic, caring and clearly had a love of his family based on the walls of his office. He will be greatly missed.

Dr. Markovitz was my PCP for over 30 years. He was such a good listener and excellent physician. The artwork from his children (in every exam room), the funny cartoons, and the lovely heart artwork (in the office on Swanton Street) always brought a smile and a sense of calmness or inspiration - much like his thorough care and impressive follow-up. He was a fabulous doctor and a wonderful human being. The highlight was being shown a video of his grandaughter, and not only was that joyful but then I looked at the smile on his face - I do not know which was better. I am so saddened by Dr. Markovitz's passing and send all my energy and thoughts to the entire Markovitz family as they navigate through this challenging time. With great respect, Susan Timmins

Dr. Markovitz was my PCP since 1991 and then became the PCP for my 5 children. When my oldest son got cancer, Dr. Markovitz would call me almost every Sunday to make sure I was okay and he was okay. I remember going into his old office in Winchester and he had his children's artwork all over the walls. I loved to come in and see all the new finger paintings, or pasta art that his children would make. I will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Markovitz family. It was so, so obvious that he loved his family very much.

We are so sorry for your loss. Dr. Markovitz was my parents primary care physician for over 35 years. He was a wonderful, caring doctor. Whenever my father was sick, had a surgery, or cancer treatments, he would call the house to check up on him, or stop in to see him at the hospital. After my father passed away, he called my mother to tell her how sorry he was for our loss. His kindness showed how much he truly cared for each of his patients. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am so sorry for your loss. My husband and I have been going to see Dr Markovitz for over 35 years. He was the best Dr and he would always ask about our kids and would tell us about his and his grandkids. We just recd a call today and wish we had known as we would have loved to pay our respects. Just so sad

I'm so very sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Markovitz. He was my physician for the past 30 years. He was a wonderfully caring and kind human being. He always make me feel heard. He never dismissed my health concerns; rather, he allowed me to be an active participant in my own care. And I loved his sense of humor...that sometimes you had to listen very carefully for. I, too, am one of those patients whom he called after hours to check on. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. You were blessed to have such a special one here on earth. He is always with you.

Dr. Markovitz was my doctor for almost 30 years. My parents were amongst his first patients when he opened his practice. I remember drawings from his children covered the walls of his office. He doted on his family whom he loved dearly. When my family moved to Orange, MA, we still made the 90 min drive to see him. I never felt like just a patient to Dr. Markovitz. If I was sick, he'd take time to call and check in to see how I was doing. He truly cared about people and that was shown through his compassion for his patients. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and coworkers. I think we all feel blessed to have known such a wonderful and pure soul. He will be deeply missed.

My heart is truly aching. He was a mensch in the truest sense of the word. So kind, so caring. He once called me from Portugal, where he was on vacation, to check on me and I wasn't even that sick. Who does that?? Dennis Markovitz, that's who! What a huge, tragic loss of a wonderful human being. I loved him very much.

The first time I met Dennis he was wearing his sandals, I knew he was going to be the doctor for me and my family, that was in 1981. For 43 years Dennis was my "Go To Doctor", and my friend. He consoled me when my daughter passed, and always shared his family memories with me. Once a year I travel to Massachusetts to visit my family and my yearly visit with Dennis, that was June 3rd. Tell me Dennis who do I trust my life with now? There will never be a doctor who worried about my wellbeing like you. I can say no more. May your life be a blessing to all that knew and loved you. Rest in peace Dr. Markovitz, may you lay in Gods eternal light and grace for all eternity......

The first time I met Dennis he was wearing his sandals. I knew back then he was going to be a good doctor for me and my daughters. that was around 1981. He has been my "GO TO" Doctor for 43 years and i just don't know what I am going to do now. I live in Florida and once a year I always go back to Melrose and my yearly visit with Dennis. My last visit was June 3 and he was doing his Doctor thing about my blood. Dennis what do I do now, who do I trust my life with? I am going to miss you very, very much. May his life be a blessing to all that knew him. Dennis May you rest in God's loving glory for all eternity..

I have been a patient of Dennis for over 43 years. Over the years he not only was "my go to Doctor", he was also my friend. I respected him as a Doctor and a decent Human Being. I grew to love his family, even though we never met, just by the stories he told me about them always filled with love and good times. All I can say is "May his life and memory be a blessing to all that knew him." Rest In Peace Dennis you will be sorely missed.

So shocked and sad by his loss. Dr. Markovitz was my primary care physician for approximately 35 years going back to when his office was located in Winchester Center. My sincere condolences to the Markovitz family. I have been a patient for over 25 years and am lost for words. I can tell you that I have visited with many doctors over the years and without question, Dennis was the absolute best example of how every doctor should care for their patients. After any lab work or tests he would always personally follow up with a reassuring call or email and so many times after business hours and on weekends. He sent his last note to me on July 13th regarding some recent lab tests. During my last visit with him earlier this year I felt compelled to thank him for taking such great care of me for so many years and how much I appreciated having him for my doctor. He looked up from his computer and gave me that great smile of his. This will be my last memory of this wonderful and caring person. I am going to miss him dearly.

I was a patient of Dr. Markovitz for over 30 years, aside from him being a great doctor, one thing stands out. My condolences to the family, my you have many fond memories.

From the first day that you want Church Street, I was a young girl sitting across from you at your desk as you tried to diagnose me all these years later you stood by me and explained my disabilities to me to understand, and not let other people judge me because I don´t look the same as them, your proud, father, proud grandfather, and a very loving husband and a very, very caring doctor as I would call you, my friend, I am lost now without you. I just don´t want to do. I hope you rest easy as you live down upon your family as a smile , and that was my dad that was my grandpa that was my husband that was my friend. Now he´s our angel as you still will take care of us from above. I will miss you. You are very big part of my life and I am so sorry for your loss to your family , may you rest heavenly in peace. I will miss Dennis greatly. As a former colleague, I will never forget his dedication to his patients- calling them off hours just to check in. He knew all of his longstanding patients in detail. He knew WHO they were, not just their medical history. We shared many patients. I would say, "You know my good friend, Dr. Markovitz!" if I noticed him listed as their PCP. They would always agree what a genuine and thoughtful doctor he was. Many of his patients were under his care for decades- a testament to his dedication to them. I will never forget the unwavering respect and trust he showed me as his colleague, and his willingness to seek my input or advice despite being years shy of his experience. He never imagined he had all of the answers and wasn´t afraid to find a new point of view. That is the mark of a true leader. He always sought to keep on top of the data- and loved to chat about what he was learning. He possessed a cheerful, one of a kind demeanor and a genuine thirst for human connection and knowledge. I will remember him very fondly. I hope his loved ones feel the warmth and joy he brought to all of us.

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Markovitz for over 35 years. He was not only our doctor but he was a friend. We felt like he was apart of our family. I saw him 4 weeks ago for my annual check up and he would always ask for my husband and son before we got to me. I feel we knew him as a person and always loved to hear about what his children were up to. As a fellow healthcare provider we would always joke about something medical recently about my organizations transition to our new electronic medical record. Our hearts are broken and are sending love and prayers to his family and friends. There are not enough words to describe what a wonderful person and doctor he was. I'm not sure there is another doctor on like him.
Our heart felt condolences to the family.

Dennis was such a caring connector within his community. He helped me build and sustain my independent music studio by referring students. Dennis and I enjoyed trading stories about our beloved jazz mentor, Charlie Banacos, who had originally introduced us. Dennis was always very kind and did not hesitate to reach out. More recently, Dennis shared news and videos of young musicians we had all once helped to nurture as well as his granddaughter Arielle. My sincerest condolences to Elana, Netana and Raviv. Dennis was a friend and an important person in my life. He will be remembered fondly.

I feel so grateful to have gotten to know Dennis as one of my bandmates in a jug band we were in together from 2019-2023. He also participated in many musical jams at my house. His warmth, humor and creativity came through in his playing, as well as in the hilarious quips, jokes and stories he shared during practices and performances. I am very saddened by this news and will miss him dearly. It is also very moving to read all the stories about how many lives he touched. Sending wishes of comfort and healing to his family.

So sorry to hear about Dennis's sudden death. I knew Dennis as a fellow Family Physician at Winchester Hospital. He was immediately welcoming when I and my group joined the Winchester Staff in 1999. I became his patient almost 40 years ago and feel so lucky to have had him as my physician. I looked forward to our appointments. We would talk about our life, our children and grandchildren. He loved his family and it was evident whenever he spoke. He was a truly wonderful man and I will miss him tremendously.

I knew Dennis as a fellow family practice physician in the Winchester Hospital community. He lead our monthly department meetings and presented medical topics that were well researched, interesting and relevant. His patients were surely lucky to have him as a physician. My thoughts are with his family and staff.

I often sat next to Dennis in the clarinet section of the Lexington Bicentennial Band. He was an excellent musician and an even better person - a real mensch. We talked about sports (and often snuck looks at each others' phones for scores during rehearsals), our families (particularly our pride in our jazz musician sons, who both trained at LHS) and life's challenges. Dennis' knowledge and his curiosity to learn more were amazing, as was his sense of humor...very often his wit was so quick it took me a while to get his jokes, and by then he was already making the next pun. I will miss Dennis profoundly, and will do my best to exemplify the traits that all who knew him admired. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Dennis's passing. For many years, he sat in front of me in the clarinet section of the Lexington Bicentennial Band. He encouraged my playing and singing, and helped me get opportunities to sing solos. He knew a lot about a lot, but was curious about things he didn't know as well; he'd ask me about France. He was a man of few words, but those words were witty, and to the point. He played very well, was kind to everyone, and will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.

I was his patient for 30 years, starting shortly after my late wife started seeing him.
A few years ago he reminded me of the time that we ran into him at some Boston Computer Society event and he said hello to my wife, but she didn't recognize him outside of the office. He said that so often patients say hello to their doctors and doctors don't recognize them. He was amused to have it the other way around. He said he has told that story to many doctor friends.
Last fall during my annual checkup, he heard a heart murmur. That led to my heart surgery in April. I last saw him three weeks ago as a follow-up to my surgery. All was good. We reveled in the Celtics' championship. I can't believe he's gone. Rest in Peace, Dr. Markovitz.

Dr. Markovitz had an immense and immeasurable positive impact on this world - and was one of the most grounded and caring people I have met in my 62 years. He was my primary physician for 30+ years - ever since he had his office on Church St. I miss him terribly already. He was so proud of his kids and their accomplishments; I have seen their "child art" in his office from the very beginning. While he is gone way too soon, it sure was a life incredibly lived. He was a fantastic physician, a fantastic man, and our lives were so fortunate to have him in our orbit. I wish you and your family peace, my friend; thank you for being you.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Markovitz´s passing. He was my primary care physician for 20+ years, as well as my wife´s and my children´s. He was so very kind and genuine. He provided care with concern - often following up with a phone call to check in or provide a little more info regarding my health. I will miss the casual chats we would have regarding Boston sports teams - most recently at my annual physical we shared our thoughts on whether or not the Celtics had what it took to be champions. My sincere condolences to his family.

I did not know Dr. Dennis Markovitz deeply, but I had several profound conversations with him when I came from Haifa, Israel, to Boston as part of delegations during my work with the Haifa-Boston Connection. The first thing I immediately noticed about him was, his wonderful sense of humor. I also have a sense of humor, and not everyone always understands it. The first thing I thought to myself when I spoke with him was: how nice it is to meet a smart person with a sense of humor who understands you immediately, and I told him that.
I know his dear wife Elena well, through our joint work at CJP (Elena as a volunteer in Boston and I as an employee in Haifa), and I mourn with her the death of Dr. Markovitz. The circumstances of his death only amplify the existing pain and the loss of such an interesting, intelligent, and life-loving person, too soon. I embrace the Markovitz family and send them a lot of strength from Israel. May you know no more sorrow. Judith Baruch, Haifa-Israel

Dennis Markovitz M.D. was one of a kind, as a physician and as a person. I'm not even certain that he realized how unusual the care he provided is. Having him as my physician (and before that, my children's physician) was one of the biggest blessings in my life, and I have had a very lucky life.
He adored life, he adored his family, and I know he adored being a physcian.
What a terrible tragedy and a truly profound loss to so, so many people.

Dr Markovitz was moving his practice from Church Street to Swanton Street and I was assigned to clean out his old office when I first met him. I liked him so much that I decided to bring my four children to him. That was 1996 and he has been there for me and my family for even the smallest concerns and always stayed on top of his patients. He will be missed dearly and I am not sure how I will even go on. He was my lifeline and so understanding.

Dr. Markovitz was a wonderful physician to me for the past 8 or 9 years! One of my favorite memories of him is during a visit, we were talking about me finishing school, working out, reading, and just sharing laughs and his face was lighting up with a big smile and he just kept telling me how proud he was of me! After he left the room he popped back in to tell me one more time that he was "just so proud." And it stuck with me for so long because I knew he really meant it. I will miss him so much!

I have a heavy heart tonight after hearing the sad news of in my opinion, a great man. Dr. Markovitz cared for my wife and I for quite some time. He was as good as it gets in his field. Dedicated, smart, and above all compassionate. I will miss our chats in the office. My deepest sympathies to the Markovitz family. I am honored to have been a patient to such a fine doctor and gentleman. Thoughts and prayers.
With Deepest Sympathy,

I met Dennis when he was at UMass Medical School as a young attending and I was a medical student. We connected and became friends. When I moved back to Massachusetts after residency, we reconnected when our children went to preschool together at Temple Emunah. Since then it has been wonderful to be his colleague at Winchester Hospital. Along with his family, friends, patients and colleagues I will miss him deeply.
