Dennis R. Nortsrud, age 86 of
Thompson, IA passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in
Forest City, IA.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Schott Funeral Home –
Forest City, IA.
Funeral services for Dennis will take place at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural
Leland, IA, with Pastor Anthony Scalisi officiating. A visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at West Prairie Cemetery following the service.

Dennis Ray Norstrud was born on September 13, 1936 in
Forest City, IA to parents Thome and Nora (Ingebretson) Norstrud. He grew up in rural Thompson, attending Forest #3 country school through the 8th grade. Denny graduated from Thompson High School in 1955.
Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Judy A. (Holland) on July 7, 1957 at the Grant Lutheran Church in
Woden, IA. To this union, three children were born: Deborah, Scott, and Lori.
Dennis began working at Hanson Furniture in Forest City, and later worked for TW Plumbing – all while starting his own farming operation. Denny joined the Army Reserves and served from 1956-1963. When Denny wasn't working, some of his hobbies included: golf, trap shooting, fishing trips to Canada, and going hunting. Sporting events were typically on the TV at home. Denny could be described as ornery on occasion but balanced that out with his good sense of humor and wit. He was a hard worker that was always willing to lend a hand to a friend or neighbor. Dennis was proud of his family, and especially cherished moments spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by both parents, Thome and Nora Norstrud; son in-law, Mitch Varner; brother, Paul Norstrud; and a brother in-law, Phillip Hauan.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judy Norstrud; children, Deborah Varner, Scott (Kim) Norstrud, and Lori (Don) DeVries; grandchildren, Donald (Melissa) Varner, Christina (Billy) Rezac, Jessica (Andy) Gosch, Mandra (Jeremy) Carlson, Joshua (Mary) Norstrud, Christopher (Trisha) Norstrud, Emily (Adam) Crise, and Joel DeVries; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Hauan and Janice (Ronnie) Brandt; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
