Dennis Ray Prater

Dennis Ray Prater passed away on February 8, 2026, in Wyandotte, Michigan, at the age of 78. He was born on July 13, 1947, in Morton, Washington, to the late Jimmy and Treva Prater.

A dedicated engineer, Dennis served the railroad industry for an impressive 43 years, contributing significantly to the field with his diligence and expertise. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were well respected by colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional life, Dennis cherished the time spent with his beloved family. He found great joy in the company of his children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed carving, fishing, and gardening, pursuits that reflected his appreciation for nature's beauty and life's simple pleasures.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Treva Prater; his children, Keith and Eric Prater; and his siblings, Larry and Joan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne, with whom he shared over 50 wonderful years. Together, they raised a family grounded in love and support. His legacy continues through his surviving children, Todd Prater and Jason (Courtney); grandchildren, Kari Prater, Brandon Prater, Kellie Prater, and Evan Prater; and great-grandchild, Llewyn. Dennis is also survived by his siblings, Debbie (Frank), Rosemary, Tim (Carol) and his sister-in-law, Karen Prater.

Cremation has taken place at "The Witness Crematory", located inside of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.
