Charles Dennis Reddick, age 72, lovingly known to all simply as Dennis, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2025, at Savannah Memorial University Hospital. Born and raised in
Adel, Georgia, Dennis lived his life with grit, grace, and a generosity of spirit that left a lasting imprint on everyone lucky enough to know him.
A lifelong meat cutter since the age of twelve, Dennis wasn't just a butcher-he was a teacher, a mentor, and a quiet minister to generations of young men (and a few determined young women) who learned the trade under his watchful eye. For Dennis, the meat market was never just about the cuts-it was about the people. He led with patience, worked with pride, and lived with kindness.
Dennis was the kind of man who could do just about anything. A true Renaissance man, he could sing a hymn, fix your car, build you a table, write a poem, weld a broken hinge, or grow a garden full of peanuts-and then cook you the best Durkee's chicken you've ever had. He was a craftsman, a storyteller, a singer of old songs, and a man who loved his family fiercely.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine Reddick of Adel; daughters, Shelli (Ernie) Phillips of Adel and Kristi (Cale) Giddens of Barney, Georgia; and the grandchildren who adored him beyond measure: Riley Jefferson Phillips, Emma Grace Phillips, both of Adel, Cale Edward "Two" Giddens, Jr., and Cleve Christopher Giddens, both of Barney. He also leaves behind his brother, Dwaine Reddick (Iris) of Enterprise, Alabama, and countless family members, friends, and former coworkers who will miss his wisdom, laughter, and steady presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Nicholas Reddick and Evelyn Fulghum McCranie.
To his family, he was a rock: a provider, a protector, a quiet hero. To his grandkids, he was simply the best "Big Dad" the world has ever known. And to this community, he was a friend, a neighbor, and the friendly face behind the meat counter who remembered your name and just how you liked your steak cut.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel) with Rev. Nick Kinsey officiating. Interment will follow at Sparks City Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Joe Maine, Brian Stone, Keith Giddens, Clay Giddens, Arthur Fulghum, Bubba Bailey and Kevin Horton will serve as pallbearers. "Beulah Land" and "Lily of the Valley" will be played at the service.
We'll miss the man who never met a stranger, who gave more than he ever asked for, and who built a beautiful life not by traveling the world, but by shaping it-right here at home.
