Dennis Sanita Obituary

HERKIMER - Dennis James Sanita passed away, in the Abraham House in Utica, with his family by his side.

He was born on April 4, 1943, in Herkimer, NY, the son of the late Mark and Antoinette (Gigliotti) Sanita. He attended Herkimer Schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the Class of 1961. He later attended and graduated from MVCC. Dennis was married to Linda Sanguine on May 16,1964 in St. Anthony's Church. In May, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Dennis served with the US Army during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged on November 12,1968 and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was the recipient of the Air Medal and Bronze Star with Valor. Together they raised two wonderful sons, Christopher (Colleen) Sanita, of Saratoga Springs, NY and Todd Sanita, of Herkimer, NY. Dennis was an avid sports fan of the NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. Dennis retired from Remington Arms, Ilion, NY, leaving many good friends and lasting memories. He enjoyed attending the many sporting events that his grandchildren participated in throughout their youth. His family was his top priority and he deeply cared for everyone.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children; and grandchildren. He also leaves his sister, Carol (Sanita) Ocuto, of Mohawk, NY; two brothers-in-law, Fred and Carol Sanguine, of Frankfort and Gregg Sanguine, of Herkimer, NY; grandsons, Michael, Noah and Devin; and one granddaughter, Liza, who were the pride and joy of his life; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Fred and Mary Sanguine; brother-in-law, Jim Ocuto; brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Louise Sanita; and a special cousin, Yvonne Gigliotti.

His funeral will be on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Anthony and Joseph, S. Main St., Herkimer, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Terance Healey. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to The Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St., Utica, NY 13501. Envelopes will be available in the church vestibule on Friday.

Dennis Sanita was my friend. Over many years, he helped the Research Team of the Remington Society of America in its efforts to preserve Remington's proud history.

Our team members always enjoyed the time we spent with Dennis at "The Arms," and he was a font of knowledge about the 40+ years he was employed there. Our success in preserving the history was, in large part, owed to Dennis Sanita.

He was a fine man, a key employee of Remington, and a true friend.

Wow!!! I'm so sad to hear about Dennis Sanita passing. Dennis was not only a Great Boss, a individual that always respected anyone he came in contact with, workers, Company Bosses, Customers, Sales people. Everyone just liked him. I worked with Dennis as my Supervisor in the Arms Service Area and also in the Custom Shop. I was always glad to see Him, outside and inside of the factory. Remington lost of the best supervisor they ever had. But HEAVEN GAINED A ANGEL, MAY GOD WELCOME YOU IN HIS PRESENCE. We will miss you DENNIS, here in this life. PATRICK

Condolences to Linda and family. Dennis was like a brother to me. I will always remember all the good times that we all shared with Dennis. Always remember getting togeather at Applebees for that Veterans Day dinner, and don´t forget the free car wash. He was always there to remind me of any upcoming events. RIP Dennis

Known Dennis for 60 years. Worked with him for many of them. Every moment with him was always a pleasant one.

There was no more helpful, knowledgeable, fun-loving, understanding, caring and loyal employee and friend than Dennis. So many in the Remington Sales Department owed Dennis a huge "Thank You" for rescuing them out of a situation of their own making! He never hesitated to get a part or stock or gun expedited at the last minute to salvage a situation. He made us all look good at one time or another. He was a key player in the "Glory Days" of the once great company. A successful company depends on great people and Dennis was one of the best. Ever.

I am grieved by the passing of Dennis Sanita. He was a long-time friend of mine through our association with "Preserving Remington's Proud History." Beginning in 1991, Dennis hosted historians from the Remington Society of America in their annual trek to "The Arms" to help management preserve the historic materials in the original Remington Archives. Even after his retirement, Dennis was our "go-to guy" whenever we had questions about the plant or the men and women who worked there. Several years ago, Dennis was inducted into the RSA's "Roll of Honor," something that he deserved without question. A "nicer guy" one could never hope to meet. Our world is a better place because of the life's work of Dennis Sanita. Rest in Peace, my Friend.
