Dennis Robert Skalka, LTC USAF (Ret), of Mico, 82, was called to the Lord's Service on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, from Blue Skies of Texas in San Antonio. Born Dec. 16, 1942, in Fairfield, Nebraska, he was the son of James Thomas and Anna Louise Bednar Skalka.
After a year of practicing veterinary medicine in Omaha, NE, Dennis served in the United States Air Force 23 years, in Veterinary Service and Infection Control.
Dennis and Margaret Fair, an Air Force nurse, married Feb. 3, 1992. They both had a love of country living near Medina Lake. He was an active member of St. John Catholic Church in Hondo.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bernard.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years; sons, Dr. Chris Fair (Raquel) and David Fair; daughters, Laura Newton (Carl) and Andrea Montalvo (Mikeal); 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 9:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hondo; Rosary: 9:30; Funeral Mass: 10:00. Mass: at Assumption Church in Deweese NE, Saturday, Sept. 27, 10 a.m; and Interment with full military honors: St. Martin-Loucky Cemetery.
