Dennis Smith, age 76, of Newport, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 920 Holley Ave, St. Paul Park, MN with visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 AM. Interment and military honors will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery with a lunch to follow.
Dennis was born August 18, 1947 in St. Paul, MN to Norman and Shirley (Melby) Smith. He grew up in Newport, MN and graduated from Park High School in Cottage Grove, MN. Dennis then entered the military serving in the U.S. Army. He went on to work in office management and bookkeeping for several years before following his passion for cooking. He obtained his Culinary Arts degree, which led to him working the majority and remainder of his career as a chef.
Dennis enjoyed being outdoors. During the summer months, he spent his time bird watching and was a wonderful gardener sharing his expertise and tips with those around him. Dennis also enjoyed reading and of course cooking but visiting with people was always a highlight for him. Dennis was known as a man of faith and prayer, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. He will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Dennis is survived by his siblings Pamela (Tim) Geraghty and Ken (Bonnie) Smith; brother-in-law Steve Markey; many nieces and nephews; as well as his dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Norman and Shirley (Melby) Smith; siblings Pat Markey and Jeff Smith.
