Dennis Clayton Smith, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Monticello, Iowa, died Friday, October 17, 2025. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dennis was born September 25, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Warren Clayton and Gloria Ann (Eby) Smith and was raised by Lolen Merton Bobst. He graduated from Monticello High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Mount Mercy College. From 1960 to 1964, Dennis proudly served in the United States Air Force. On November 14, 1964, he married Carol Ann Smith in Cedar Rapids. Dennis worked as a Supervising Auditor for the National Credit Union Administration until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of Prairie Bible Church in Cedar Rapids, Swisher American Legion Post 671, and the National Association of Accountants.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Ann Smith of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Dawn (Gary) McCalley of Swisher, Iowa, Denise (Bradley) Langhoff of Marion, Iowa, and Deanna (Michael) Hardt of Elgin, Illinois; grandchildren, Courtney (Nicholas) Gordon, Colleen (Joseph) Vonderhaar, Callie (Kolt) Stulz-O’Brien, Melissa (Paul) Gaylord, Mitchell (Mayra) Koepping, Braden Langhoff, Ashley Hardt, and Andrew (Jazmin) Hardt; and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Nicholas Jr., Kaydin, Kai, Peter, Lucy, Annie, Jaxson, Braxton, Sylvie, and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Donna May Smith; and Lolen Merton Bobst.
Memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice, Cedar Rapids.
