Dennis went to Michigan State University where he majored in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, receiving his bachelor's degree.
Dennis married Kim Punches June 24, 2000, in Muir, together raising 6 children. He worked for PLM as a Chemical Applicator. Dennis loved golfing and was a devoted Detroit Lions fan, he loved mission trips in the Dominican Republic, Poker shark, and playing with his kids, and watching cartoons.
He is survived by his loving wife Kim VanGessel of Portland. Children, Brennon, Samuel, Shane, Angel, Lilly and Tasha. Mother Susan Bylsma and Gale Rininger of Lyons. Siblings, Richard VanGessel Jr. of Haslett, Michael VanGessel and Jennifer Collins of Ionia, Ann Pennington and Allen of Lyons, Sarah Bylsma of Ionia, Chris VanGessel and Mary VanGessel of Grand Rapids. Stepmother Denise VanGessel of Newaygo. Stepbrothers, Ben Herbert of Texas and Paul (Jessica) Herbert of Newaygo. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father Richard.
Funeral Services will be at the Lake Funeral Home on Friday, September 12th at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation on Friday from Noon until the time of services. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Muir. Please consider Lions gear for those attending the funeral . A luncheon will follow the service at the Log Cabin Inn Banquet Center, 6484 E Bluewater Hwy, Muir, MI 48860Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Dennis's family.
