Dennison Viduya Raval
September 30, 1959 to January 18, 2024
Dennison Viduya Raval (Dennis), 64, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at Fresno Regional Hospital.
Dennis was born in Manila, Philippines on September 30, 1959. He was the son of Romulo Singson Raval (RIP) and Violeta Viduya Raval (RIP). Dennis attended high school and was a BS Architecture undergraduate student at the University of Santo Tomas before he immigrated to the US. He then completed his AS in Architectural Technology, AS in Engineering Technology, and programming courses from City College of San Francisco.
In April of 1976, his father along with the first four of the eight children migrated to the United States. It was then decided that the three brothers, Danny (then only 20), Dennis (then only 16), and Leo (14) would remain in the US. They had to maintain their apartment on their own. Dennis and Leo worked and went to school, while faced with challenges of adapting to a new country and culture. The brothers' shared determination to survive paved the way for an easier transition to the US for their youngest siblings.
Dennis has over 44 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer and Engineering Designer for plants and equipment focused on the Mining Industry. He was a Mechanical Principal Designer for Kvaerner Metals, formerly Davy McKee, for over 20 years where he designed for dozens of major nickel, copper, gold, and other mineral projects. In 2009, he moved to
Tucson, Arizona for employment as the Mechanical Principal Designer for Jacobs Engineering Group Mining and Metal Co. In Arizona, he later worked with four other mining and utility firms and was last employed by PGH Wong Engineering doing electrical, mechanical, architectural, and structural designs for their Transportation engineering projects. Dennis made the sacrifice of monthly commuting from Arizona to South San Francisco for over 13 years to provide for his family.
Dennis at 22 owned 122 Lee Avenue in San Francisco. Known to be extraordinarily responsible at an early age, he was paying the mortgage, while working and going to school. Understanding real estate as a good investment to provide for his family, in 1984, he upgraded his home and moved to Daly City. In 1987, he moved his growing family to South San Francisco. Dennis has been an inspiration to many for being able to own a property at such an early age.
The compass of the life of Dennis points to his faith and love of God. Dennis scheduled himself for the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at San Bruno Church from around 2 am to 5 am, the hours when no one can keep the "watch." He was very devoted to Our Lady of Fatima and the Holy Rosary. Before moving to Arizona, he coordinated "Block Rosaries" for years, where his image/statue of Our Lady of Fatima visited family and friends complete with a hand-carry of prayer books, rosaries, crucifix, and holy water.
Dennis was very soft-spoken and was the ultimate example of patience and humility. Except for his skinny jeans, he wears the simplest of all clothes. He volunteered weekly to feed the hungry at San Bruno. For 23 years, he was a volunteer at Professionals to USA, recruiting USRNs from the Philippines and around the world to be given green card visas and work for US hospitals, so they can have a better life. Dennis reminded us that God will always provide and to follow God's will.
Dennis was very talented in all kinds of sports. He was scheduled to play chess with Manny Pacquiao. He was a great tennis player and an avid basketball player. He lifted weights and did push-ups before going to bed. He played bowling and billiards, too. Dennis was also a great singer, the local Rico Puno, and a great dancer. Dennis was also an exceptional cook and was the only one among all siblings who could make his dad's version of igado, dinuguan, and papaitan.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Josephine "Yeyeh," his greatest joys in life, his children, Dennison "DJ" (Dianne and granddaughter Jozhabel), Brian (Jonalyn), Shaun (Chelsea and grandson Sebastian), and Kevin. and also, by his siblings Danny (Josie), Lourdes (Baltazar), Leo (Josephine), Vivian (Glenn), Deborrah (Jojo), Pinky (Rhen), and Raymund (Joy).
The Viewing will be from 4 pm to 9 pm on Friday, February 2, at the Olivet Gardens Chapel at 1651 Hillside Blvd,
Colma, CA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 3 at St. Augustine Church, 3700 Callan Blvd., South San Francisco, CA. The Interment will be at 3 pm at the Holy Cross Cemetery, 1500 Mission Road,
Colma, CA.
