Denny (Shorty) Allen, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, in Sun City, Arizona. Born on November 24, 1934, in Aurora, Illinois, he lived a life filled with dedication to family, service, and the great outdoors.

Denny proudly served in the United States Army, exemplifying a spirit of commitment that extended through his years as a long-time volunteer with the American Legion Color Guard. His military service was a testament to his character and values. After returning from service, he enjoyed a successful career spanning over 30 years with Northern Illinois Gas, where he built lasting relationships and forged a strong reputation in the community.

A graduate of Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Illinois, Denny was an avid outdoorsman whose passions included skiing, hiking, and swimming. He found joy in music, playing the accordion and piano, often delighting those around him with his talent and humor, even jokingly claiming to consult with the Pope in his spare time.

Denny was deeply loved by his family. He is survived by his devoted spouse of 30 years, Sharon, a marriage made in Heaven; daughters, Susan (Al) Weber, Debby (John) Adent, Cindy Schulz, Anne (Jerry) Ramirez, and Pam Hall; sons, John (Kim) Allen, Mike (Doris) Dawson, Matt (Diane) Dawson, and David (Amy) Dawson. His legacy continues through his 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy and pride.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Violet Allen, as well as two brothers and one sister. Denny’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Visitation will be held on March 6, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Menke Funeral & Cremation Center in Sun City, Arizona. This will be followed by a Rosary at 4:30 PM the same day. A Mass celebrating his life will take place on March 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Clement of Rome Church, also in Sun City.

As we remember Denny, we celebrate his rich life and enduring spirit that will forever be part of the hearts he touched.
