Hayworth-Miller Funeral Homes Kernersville Chapel - KernersvilleKERNERSVILLE – Denny Rudolph Holder, 93, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Trinity Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation facility. Denny was born on October 16, 1932 in Forsyth County, the only child of Jay Denny and Mary Jane Hine Holder. He graduated from Glenn High School in 1951 and attended NC State for 2 years before returning home and being drafted by the US Army. He received military training in radar repair and was stationed in Korea for one year. He retired from Western Electric where he was an Electronics Technician with over 35 years of service.
Denny was happiest outdoors, whether on his tractor, gardening, splitting wood or just taking in God’s creation on a long walk. He was known to proudly share his harvest of cantaloupe and watermelon with church members, friends and neighbors. After retirement, he enjoyed raising cows and woodworking, having built many birdhouses from the remnants of the old Holder family barn. He talked fondly of the Holder family history and relics of the past were very important to him. He loved to tinker and fix things, always thinking up a new idea and how he might bring it to life. A lifetime member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, he found fulfillment and fellowship in helping to till and plant the church garden. His service to the church that brought him the most joy was providing hayrides for the children’s ministries, which he did for several years. Following a good snow, he could always be found on his tractor scraping the church parking lot or clearing driveways for his neighbors. His strong work ethic was just his way of life. He took care of those he loved and helped in any way he could. As much as he shared his love for others, spending time with his family was most important to him.
Denny met his life-long love, Nina Motsinger while in high school, though he loved to tell the story of how he had seen her years before and knew he was going to marry her. Denny and Nina were married on December 26, 1953 and were blessed to celebrate their 72nd anniversary in December 2025. It was clear to see that their love for each other never diminished through the years. Surviving are his wife, Nina Holder; three daughters, Diane Helms (Greg), Sarah Serbus (Randy) of AZ, and Bonnie Cline (Dyke); one son, Ron Holder (Cindy); seven grandchildren, Leslie Matthews, Stephen Helms (Brooke), Joe Keith, Kimberly Pardue (Sean), Kameron Dallas (Casey), Joshua Holder, and Jacob Holder; nine great grandchildren, Ava, Maren and Hudson Helms, Lilly and Shane Matthews, Kolt Pardue, Kinley, Adeline and Knox Dallas.
In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by a grandson, David Keith.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Trinity Glen who gave Denny exceptional care, taking time to talk with him and treating him with compassion and dignity. Also, a sincere thanks to Trellis Supportive Care for the additional support and special care they provided to Denny and the family members.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday March 8, 2026 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m. prior to the service in the Sanctuary.
Memorials may be made to Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Holder Family.
