Derek was a good person and great friend. I was 13 and had just moved to a new neighborhood from out of state. When I was feeling out of place in a strange new land my new neighbor Derek adopted me and instantly became my ambassador to the rest of the neighborhood crew. With the common love of skateboarding it wasn't long until we had basically turned the neighborhood into our very own skate park... a quarter pipe skate ramp in my backyard and a half pipe skate ramp in Derek's. In the summer evenings we hung out in front of Derek's home resting up from our Bernard Street downhill skate board runs or our camouflage hide and seek sessions. There were even some cute girls who lived across the street that kept things interesting for us. Other times we were cycling or playing on our buddy John's trampoline down by the local resaca. Those were the days. They were good times with good friends. Thank-you for your kindness Derek. Rest in peace brother Derek.
