Derrick Jordan Burnett

      Derrick Jordan Burnett, 32, of Carmi, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Fairfield Illinois. He was born on April 17, 1991, in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of Alan Ray and Shelly L. (Sturdavant) Burnett . Derrick attended Brownsville School in Carmi. He worked various jobs locally. Derrick enjoyed wrestling, Nascar, football, and country music. He was also an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

     Derrick is survived by his parents, Alan (Cheryl)  Burnett of Carmi, IL and Shelly Burnett of New Haven, IL; his siblings, Justin (Stephanie) Burnett of Carmi, IL, Chad Burnett of Carmi, IL, and Kyle (Ella) Burnett of Crossville, IL; step-siblings, Hunter (Kinsey) Williams,  and Levi Williams; his grandmothers, Wava Burnett of Carmi, IL, and Joyce M. Sturdavant of Reed City, MI; nieces and nephews, Parker Burnett, Zoie Hull, Hallie Burnett, Mollie Burnett and Myla Burnett; aunts and uncles, Kimberly Sturdavant, Bernice "Renee" Sturdavant, Bernard "Tiger" Sturdavant Jr, Candy Ann Voliva, Larry (Denise) Burnett, Mary Ann Burnett, Carolyn Clifford and Kevin (Tara) Burnett. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Frank Burnett and Bernard "Butch" Sturdavant.

       Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Stendeback Funeral Home in Carmi. A private funeral service will follow with burial at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Derrick's memory to Brownsville School and will be accepted at Stendeback Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
