Derrick Preston Mofield, of Hickory, passed away Wednesday April 12, 2023, at his residence of natural causes.
Born in Moore County, N.C. on Dec. 25, 1962, he was the son Theresa Hall of
Vass, N.C. and Carl Mofield of
Goldsboro, N.C.Derrick grew up in Aberdeen N.C. He graduated from Union Pines High School and enjoyed being on the tennis team. He went on to Appalachian State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He studied at Catawba Valley Community College earning an Associate in applied Science Radiography degree. He was also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Derrick enjoyed the Mountains where he loved hiking and finding waterfalls, fishing, camping and sitting by a campfire, swimming at Wilson Creek Gorge. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and the harmonica. He loved listening to rock and roll and blues music and contemporary Christian music. He enjoyed tennis, golf, and his precious dog, Cody.
He is survived by his wife Koni Mofield of the home; stepdaughter Chanin Wilson of Hickory, grandchildren Madison Howell of Cornelius, Ghabriel Wilson of Hickory and Maloni Propst of Hickory; also, two great grandchildren, Carter and Gracelynn Wilson. Mother, Theresa Hall and husband Jerry Hall of Vass, father Carl Mofield and wife Marie Mofield of Goldsboro, sisters Randi Jackson and husband Jimmy Jackson of Charlotte, Jerri Hill and Mark HIll of Oak Island, Carolyn Viet and Jason Viet of Vass. Also survived by three nephews and two great nephews.
In addition, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Eric Wilson, Junior of Hickory.
