Derrick Daniel Runey (1975-2024)
Leaving us far too soon, Derrick Runey, 48, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 12th, 2024, in Sherwood, Oregon.
Born on December 3rd, 1975, Derrick spent his life living in Sherwood, attending the local schools and forging friendships, both old and new, that endured for his lifetime. He grew into a natural and amusing storyteller and was cherished for his devotion to his family and friends. If anyone was in need, Derrick was always there.
An outdoorsman from a young age, Derrick was expertly mentored by his Uncle Tim Tilander. If the quarry had fins or antlers, Derrick excelled in the sport and the comradery of sharing the experience with others. Whether plunking for trout on his in-law's property, bank or boat fishing for all other species of fish, or hunting for elk and deer, Derrick found relaxation and fulfillment by being in nature. He had an uncanny ability to remember and recount the details of each adventure, always interjecting his humor, which at times could be both hilarious and unfiltered.
He found lasting love with Kelsey Wilkins, marrying her on December 6th, 2008.
Derrick spent most of his career at A & A Drilling, where he recently ascended to the role of managing partner and co-owner. Over the years, his professional dedication and commitment was key to the ongoing success of this highly specialized business.
He is survived by his wife, Kelsey, step daughter Carson and step son Taylor; his parents, Sindy Tilander and Dan Runey; step mother Patricia Runey; sisters Danelle Van Winkle and Erika Fox; and a host of other heartbroken family members and friends.
A service to celebrate Derrick's life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Sherwood, Oregon, on Sunday, October 27th at 2:00 p.m. The family invites those who knew Derrick to gather and share stories, laughter, tears, and memories, honoring a man deeply loved.
