Derrick Maurice Sherrod peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. As an organ donor, Derrick was honored with an emotional “Honor Walk” on Thursday, April 24th, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and the dedicated medical team.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Derrick was the eldest of three children. He was educated in the Nashville Public School System and later attended Tennessee State University. As a young adult, Derrick gave his life to Christ and was baptized—laying a foundation of faith that guided his journey through life.
A natural entrepreneur, Derrick pursued a career in business management. Alongside his brother Purcell, he launched a trucking company that specialized in vehicle transport. True to his adventurous spirit, Derrick eventually moved to Dallas, Texas, where he continued his career as an over-the-road truck driver for a major trucking company.
Derrick had a deep love for travel, exploring many places across the globe. No matter how far his travels took him, his heart remained close to home—he always made time to visit and check in on his family.
Derrick and his brothers later founded Champ Life, an activewear company created to inspire others to embrace their inner champion. His passion for uplifting others also led him to become a life coach, motivating people to reach their full potential. In addition, he opened a Neo-Soul lounge—a welcoming space for adults to enjoy music and community in a positive atmosphere.
Known for his radiant smile and uplifting energy, Derrick had a way of brightening any room he entered. He was a devoted father, proud grandfather, loving son, and cherished brother. Family meant everything to him.
Derrick leaves behind his beloved mother, Sarah Sherrod; his daughter, Jaszania Chambers; grandson, Kash Brown; brother, Justin Sherrod; uncle, Anthony (Angela) Ewing; aunts, Rosa (Brad) Ewing, Berneda Ewing, Margaret (Barry) Bridges, Carolyn (Lemore) McGill, Virginia (Thomas) Crowder, and Eva (Matt) Holloway; along with a host of cousins and devoted friends who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his father, Percell Sherrod, Sr., and his brother, Percell Sherrod, Jr. Please keep the Sherrod family in your thoughts and prayers.
