Dessie Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 16, 2026.
Dessie Belle Cash Smith, affectionately known as Dessie, passed away peacefully on the 11th of January, 2026, at the age of 78, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Born on October 20, 1947, in Buchanan, Virginia, to Frank Cash and Mary Goff Cash. Dessie's life was one of unwavering faith, boundless love, and enduring strength. As a Christian, she lived her life with grace, compassion, and kindness in her daily actions. Her warm spirit and gentle smile were a source of comfort to all, and her legacy will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who had the fortune to cross paths with her.

Predeceased by her husband, Thomas Floyd Smith, and her dear sons, William "Billy" Thomas, Thomas "Little Tom" , and John Paul. Dessie's memory is carried on by her loving children: Angela (Donald), Bryan (April), Laurie (Jordan), Patricia

(Shane), and Matthew (Lindsey). Each of them reflects a part of her spirit, from her nurturing heart to her unwavering resilience. Dessie's life was further enriched by the joy and laughter of her 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Stephanie (Loyd and Lily), Emily, Kayce (Anthony, Shayla, and Mason), Justin (Elizabeth and Isabelle), Savanna (and Joey), Sean, Joshua, Cheyenne, Maya, Hunter, Bryson, Gage, Brandon, and Nathan. Her best friend (more like a sister), Bonita Greenwood, of over 45 years, was always there for her. She loved all of her family deeply.

Dessie's life was a testament to the power of love and family. Her home was always a hub of activity, filled with the sounds of children's laughter and the aromas of her home-cooked meals. She

had a gift for making everyone feel special and loved, often going out of her way to show her affection through thoughtful gestures and words of encouragement. Her commitment to her family was her life. Dessie was a pillar of strength and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She opened her home to many neighborhood children (Bill Shipman), that became family as well. She touched many lives and made a lasting difference.

As we say goodbye to Dessie, we celebrate the remarkable life she led and the indelible mark she left on this world. Her unwavering faith, her nurturing presence, and her boundless capacity for love will continue to inspire those who knew her. Dessie Belle Cash Smith's memory will live on not only through her family but also through the countless lives she touched

with her extraordinary spirit. Let us honor Dessie's legacy by holding our loved ones close, living life with purpose, and spreading kindness wherever we go. She has set forth on her final journey, leaving us with treasured memories and a blueprint for a life well-lived. Dessie will be deeply missed, yet her light will continue to shine brightly in the lives of her family and friends, guiding us through the days ahead with the same love and grace she always showed.
