Farris Funeral Service, Inc. – Main Street ChapelDevada Sue Holinda, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at NHC Bristol, VA. She was born on February 4, 1934, in Cleveland, Virginia to the late Ballard Taft Phelps and Martha Lucille Phelps.
Devada was a proud military wife, supporting her husband throughout his distinguished career in the United States Army for over 30 years. Her unwavering strength and commitment to her family were evident in every aspect of her life. She had a kind heart and was deeply involved in church activities, where she found joy and community. Her love for crafts manifested in her talent for sewing, where she dedicated her time creating Cabbage Patch dolls for needy children, exemplifying her generosity and compassion. Devada attended East Bristol Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, Devada was preceded in death by her husband, George Holinda, Sr.; siblings, Margaret Ann White and Hollie Douglas Phelps and nephew Dewayne Hollie Phelps.
Devada is survived by her son, George Holinda, Jr and wife, Bonnie; her daughter, Faith Anne Holinda and husband, Gary (Emmett) Evans; her grandson, Patrick Ryan Holinda and wife, Jill ; and her great-grandson, Chase Riley Holinda. She is also remembered fondly by her niece, Donna Sue Worley and husband, Kevin, and her nephew, Randy Allen Phelps.
Devada's legacy of love and creativity will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her contributions to both her family and community will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Farris Cremation & Funeral Center – Forest Hills Chapel, located at 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA with Bro. Floyd Baily officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
