DeVerne Howard Johnson

I was new working for North Central in Chicago and a week away from a payday and I was dead broke. I quikly struck up friendships with all the midwest farm boys working there--there were a lot of them. Deverne being 10 years older than me and some months of work seemed like he might be the guy to ask for a loan. He loaned me $5. THe ONLY money I ever borrowed from a non-bank person in my life. I will never forget it. Especially as I would learn how tightly DJ like to hold his money. Ha ha.
